I got the uscca insurance and added another million of umbrella insurance. I hope never to use it but it does make me feel more comfortable carrying.

Just talked to Alicia and it seems there was a bit of a mix-up on my approval. After investigations was done with my application it was sent to the Captain for final pre-approval, but instead of pressing the pre-approval button he pressed the final approval button for coming in and picking up the permit by mistake. I thought the email I received was a bit odd because it said to call for an appointment to pick up my permit...
Anyway, Alicia was super nice and got everything straightened out, and also said that they're waiting on DOJ to give the go ahead for fingerprinting and face to face transactions. She said they're looking at around the 2nd week of July.

I submitted mine Jan 21st. Guess I still have a few more weeks.

Congrats and thanks for the info.

Good to know you're happy with it, and thanks to those who have posted. As a potential permit looms in the future, there's so many things to really think about beyond just putting it in the holster and heading into the public.

I do have a question for those on here who have gotten their permits. Do any of you carry specific insurance because of it? I've gotten a lot of ads from USCCA and various other types of organizations that offer different levels of legal protections, lawyer networks, etc. Was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on that and if anyone carries it and what group they went through (if they'd be willing to share).

Congrats! Hopefully this will slowly open the gates for the rest of us to filter through and get those permits!

I think that insurance is a great idea, for all aspects of life.

If one had an umbrella policy that specifically also would provide for an attorney if they were in a self defense shooting situation, that would be a bonus.

I don't know the first thing about insurance for that purpose though, so I'm not the one to ask...but insurance is always good when it's on your side.

I checked in with the SO just for giggles, and Alicia still has no word or idea when in person transactions will resume. They will process applications up to the point of pick up, and will make appointments for pick up as soon as they are given the go ahead from the powers that be.
As for insurance, I havnt signed up yet, but I did a ton of research on the topic and will likely get my coverage from USCCA. I think they have the best all around coverage for self defense, and they don't restrict the coverage for firearms, it can be any form of self defense. I figure if I am going to be carrying, I would sleep better knowing I have legal defense and council should the need ever arise. Hopefully, I never need it, but I would sleep better knowing I wont go bankrupt if I do.

It would be a great idea to carry insurance in case you ever NEED to use your weapon. The rates are fairly low and coverage is pretty good to ease the mind of being unrepresented or needing to sell everything you have to defend yourself. USCCA seems to have the best coverage and still a low price.
