Oh don't get me wrong, I've taken their classes and they are great. But $450 for 16 hours is a lot compared to everyone else. I try to practice enough that outside of holster draw practice, I'd rather save some money and take their classes separate from the test

Then use the CFARS and CRIS website portal to track your request

The California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) is a web-based application that will allow an individual to report their firearms to the Department of Justice (DOJ) using California Reporting Information System (CRIS) reporting forms, as outlined in California firearms laws and regulations. For your protection, the DOJ does not process credit card payments nor does it retain record of the credit card data. All payments are conducted through a third party payment application processing company using secured transactions.

Interesting. I'd imagine the ones with the easiest quals will be the most popular. But I wouldn't consider having to go through the FBI qual a deterrent to using a vendor if they offer quality instruction.

Everyone in my pistol class passed the FBI Qual and for most of us, it was the second day using a holster. I passed with a Shield drawing from AIWB and I'm a mediocre shooter.

I'm not sure what you mean here. My instructor hinted I'd have to pass with every firearm I want to put on my permit.

Since official quals haven't really been posted at all yet, what happens if you don't pass? I read that you get one re-do that same day and a fail means try again in 6-12 months, but it didn't sound like the vendors actually report back to the sheriff if you failed. Couldn't you just sign up for another vendor's quals and try again?

If your experience is limited to public ranges, you might want some extra training for holster use and shooting faster than 1 round per 2 seconds...unless the approved vendors include that practice in the 16 hour course.

The class should be 8hr only for San Mateo county. Some outfits are making you sit for 2 days and charging 375. Outrageous and overkill.

At the current rate, a couple months if lucky. If not, sometime well into 2023.

I called to find out where I was and he told me my place in line. They are on about #180 right now and not many have been approved for about a month now.

Previous posters' asked via email or phone call and both were 190 in line.

Asking any question via email gets a sternly written ALL CAPS response to be patient and asking any questions is delaying your processing.

It seems pointless to ask for any update unless you've already been approved.
