San Diego County CCW 90 Day Wait
Following my interview, I am roughly about half way through the 90 day wait period.
Is this period fixed at 90 days? Or when space becomes available, could SDSO complete their background investigations earlier than that 90 day mark?
No rush, just curious if its a window that must pass in its entirety, or if its a 'soft' window to allow them adequate and ample background investigation time.
Thanks everyone!

I think the recent change to mailing permits rather than in person pickup has worked well. This past Monday, I filled out the Permitium application informing SDCSD that I have moved. This afternoon, Thursday, I received an email from Lisa Harper saying they had received the application and that my updated license will arrive in 3-4 weeks.
Much faster than I expected for any response...Leave a comment:

Looks like you're in the same boat as my family member. He's been bugging me because I told him mine and friends was under the 90 day mark. I figure the holidays and COVID has added to that processing time.Leave a comment:

Yikes.. 4 days over. Nothing to be worried about, if there was they would’ve been contacted earlier.Leave a comment:

It could have been a bluff or an oversight that he caught right after making it. The reason I asked is that we had an incident in one of the So Cal forums where the deputy was highly accusatory in an interview over not disclosing a ticket that was well over 5 years old on the theory that somehow the applicant should have known that the nature of the ticket constituted an arrest even though the applicant was never cuffed, transported, booked, or charged other than the normal traffic ticket process. I really had to shake my head over that one. I was trying to find out if yours was a similar situation. It does not seem so. Thanks for the info.Leave a comment:

Now for my qual test I used a guy named David Premetz. He was a member of a private shooting club "EFGA" and we did the test there out in escondido at that club EFGA.
His email is 'slixgunr@yahoo.com'
Great guy, so friendly, patient and informative. Respectful and just a great vibe to him. Didnt make me feel rushed or intimidating.
David was great. I will absolutely use him for renewal. The club was really nice and a great spot. I got lucky and everyone had left by the time my shooting qual came and so i felt great not having anyone watch me or around. No other shots ringing out distracting me.
Well thats it for me folks. Not much else I can add. Id highly recommend David. You'll like his private club he does the class and shot qual at. All part of the fee of $150 David Premetz charges.Leave a comment:

First off- Im very presentable and non-threatening and trustworthy(normal and non-sketchy) looking.
Second my interviewer was very nice and non-intimidating. But to answer your question he did break character for a brief second and did bluff a 'tad' on that question when he was going thru my background and record online during the interview. But he also did check himself without me checking him and he caught himself and corrected himself saying "well the ticket is over 5yrs so it doesnt apply here anyways'. But I did describe exactly what I did here that I had regular street/highway tickets and Mr Ticket Mitchel Medhey probably had it amended down to that offroad designation.
No, there was no indication why they thought it was relevant, but in my opinion it was just what I described above^^^ a small bluff to see how I reacted. Obviously I passed the in-person bluff test.
So I cant think much more of it either. Interviewer(male) did counter himself saying it was over 5 yrs, but all I can think was it was a inperson bluff...To see if I would add some info or divulge more or something.
Who knows...But I got my Permit. Now lets see what the new Sheriff will do when I renew down the line.
Thank you everyone who I got advice from, good luck to everyone that takes some experience lessons from me.Leave a comment:

+1 for Kyle at DGM. At my last renewal he did not require any kind of approval letter for training, but with a new Sheriff in town, as the saying goes, rules can change at any time.Good idea to check with the CCW clerk. This is my first renewal, so no idea what renewals were like before.
I just noticed the second half of your question. I used Bill Desy at CCWUSA. Kyle at Discount Gun Mart is highly recommended by friends of mine and by a few people on this forum.Leave a comment:

Thanks again.
I am not sure if the renewal process has recently changed but for my renewal back in 2020, not initial class, l needed approval letter prior to taking the class. This was per my instructor.
I will check with Sheriff CCW clerk.

Well, perhaps, I should have worded my question differently; I understand about the 90 days expiration period, however, on my last renewal the training instructor specifically asked for the approval letter to take the class.
You got your permit renewed so quickly, I am asking/wondering whether you take the training class prior to receiving approval letter or after?
If you took the class before the approval, you must have from reading your reply above, which instructor did you attend?
Thanks.

San Diego CCW
For renewals you need to take the 4 hour class within 90 days of expiration of your CCW and before you submit the renewal paperwork (they will ask for proof of your class). Since you can't renew until you are within 45 days from your CCW expiration date, you basically have 45 days to play with.
