How is Project Appleseed doing nationwide?

Just curious. Love the program, wanna see it thrive. I know it's doing well in CA based on the two I've gone to.

It's an interesting question. They used to make a big deal about how they were doubling every year and had discussions on the forum about how many shoots they had to do to meet it. This stopped some years ago and it's not at all clear if they're growing at all, or even holding steady. Definitely they burnt out a lot of volunteers when they were really pushing growth at any cost.

Go to the Appleseed website and click on RWVA links, then the forum. I monitor this a time or two a week and there are weekly updates from the various shoots around the country. While I'm a new guy to AS, it does seem from what I've read, that AS is not as "robust" as it used to be. Have to admit tho, I had not heard of it until a friend and his two sons attended a shoot in Sacramento and mentioned it to me.

Nationwide our attendance peaked in 2011. Ammo shortage is a big part of that, but not the whole story either.

We have taught at least one class in all 50 states, and one in Canada. For the current calendar year we have shoots already done or on the calendar in 35 states, with about five more anticipated as they come out of winter quarters. So the program is still rather strong, but not nearly where we'd like it to be.

Instructing is hard. Saving the country is hard. We are currently standing with Washington and von Steuben in Valley Forge, a force undaunted, but with the final outcome still very much in doubt. So be it. We didn't volunteer because we thought it would be easy.

Also of interest, recently we've been seeing more brand new students and fewer returning students. This is GREAT, but it's not easy to reach new people, which limits our growth and our size. As always, the best thing you can do to support Appleseed is to spread the word.

Man, I don't understand it in my area. I've been to 2 in dulzura and both were pretty packed. Then all of a sudden you guys quit hosting them there. I really want this program to thrive, so what can we do?

Dulzura's a special case. I don't know the details but we've had persistent issues staffing it.

              So... take a hat?

I'd probably do it if they could host there again. I'd be the position model though lol

Josh, there is an instructor (probably several) who is very interested in reopening the Dulzura shoots, but he's currently running one, and sometimes two other locations.

If we can lighten his load running those locations, I'm not aware of any reasons Dulzura couldn't get up and running again.

Right now, Rainbow is your closest option. Come see us and get the process started. Our Feb. event is sold out, but still 13 spots open in April.
