One rifle or two for Appleseed?

I found out about elbow pads after the first day of appleseed - especially as you try and correct your position.
I have three mat ideas that have worked well for me:
My first foray was a packing blanket, it was what tore up my elbows because of how rough it was( and I was wearing ss shirt)
next I moved up in the world, and it is still my favorite - I picked up the foam flooring for kids( found it at toys-R-us) jokingly referred to as the dance floor being as it was similar to parquet floor
For my next event, I will be using a NcStar VISM shooting shooting mat / rifle case- due to the nature of the course of fire ( shoot what you carry) I was looking at the 5.11 tactical USB drag bag, but I found it hard to swallow the $150+Comment

The only problem with elbow pads is it sometimes makes it hard to get a stable position. Some of them roll. As a first-time shooter I had elbow pads, at my second event I ditched 'em and shot better. As an instructor, my elbows are now trained...
Taping up the elbows ahead of time might be a good compromise. Don't know, never tried it.
Drag bag / shooting cases can work, but they also mean dumping dirt onto your rifle when you're done... I have one, I use it in some situations, but more typically rifle comes in and out of a proper case (or goes back on my shoulder) and Midway mat rolls up, and off I go to the next station.Riflemen Needed.

Maybe tape as suggested by rocketman or also using a neoprene support sleeve? The neoprene gives a little padding without putting in a lot of bulk or squish. If it was a snake, it would have bit me.
