CaPRC Centerfire Match at Angeles 03/25/12

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce their next centerfire match will be Sunday March 25th at the Angeles Ranges.

Signups start at 7:00am and shooting should start at 8:15am when the line goes hot.
Please arrive at the left side of the Angeles rifle range no later than 7:30am to sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers.
Your shooters number is also your position on the line so please lineup accordingly.

Match fee is $20 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
You can renew your membership at the match, just bring a recent NRA magazine cover with address label.
The match fee also includes use of the range after the match is completed.
We usually finish by 1pm.
Bring 70 rounds of match grade ammo. This is higher than our usual 50-shot round count.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 600yds.









Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised postions.



Bring a backpack to shoot off of for stages that don't allow a bipod.



This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rifles from 223 up through 308.
A velocity limit of 3100 fps will be in effect to reduce damage to club-owned steel targets.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed.

We had lots of rain in the Southland yesterday and Angeles was pouring:

There was also a bad wreck on the 405 North and traffic came to a complete stop for over an hour:

Several shooters including me got stuck in the traffic so the match started late.

We had 14 shooters show up to shoot today's match out of 14 RSVP's. We had atleast 2 1st time Caprc match shootes. Steven ran the match. Mike Sumner, Mike Fernandez and Adam Vardanyan helped run the line and spot. Total round count for the day was 62 + additional rounds for the Man/Man. There were a total of 10 stages with 1150 points and a 50 point bonus available.
The course of fire was as follows:

Stage 1. 200 yard Cold bore. On the beep, engage the 2" reticle with 1 shot. Nick Plouffe and Jeff Butler managed to score all 50 points on this stage.

Target for the cold bore was the Carlos Hathcock vs. Cobra Sniper target:

I was lucky #13. I missed completely.

Stage 2. 200 yard Hostages. On the beep, engage the eye box of the hostage taker with 3 rounds each side. Rich Maertz scored 85 points on this stage

Stage 3. Invisible Targets. On the beep, engage the 6 invisible targets at 100 yards from the prone position with one shot each. You are unable to see the targets, but your spotters can see them and thy are giving you corrections from an aiming point that you can see. 3 people got 3 out of the 6 shots. Most people were not able to complete the stage in the allotted time.

Stage 4. 100 yard pool balls, weak side. Complete the usual pool ball targets shooting weak side/weak trigger finger. Nobody cleaned this stage. Will have to bring this back again for more practice.

Stage 5. 100 yard 5 dot drill from behind the yellow line. Start with ammo on the back bench and a round in hand, on the beep move to your rifle, engage a dot, open your bolt and retrieve another round, engage another dot and repeat until finished. Only 1 person cleaned this stage, Solomon Manansala. A trend that repeated itself throughout the match.

Stage 6. 300 yard Positional KYL. On the beep, engage the 300 yard 10" plate with 2 shots from the following positions: Prone, Sitting, Kneeling, and Standing. A miss causes you to zero the target. Stop when you want. This was a good stage. Actually Danny Nguyen got both his prone and sitting shots off and then missed kneeling so ended up scoring zero, but congrats for getting the most hits. Not an easy feat. Solomon and Mike Sumner scored the most on this stage getting their prone and 1 sitting shots.

Stage 7. 400 yard Barricade. On the beep engage the 400 year 12" plate with 2 shots from each port on the barricade. Interestingly this stage everybody got atleast one hit. Barricades are always my nemesis... Danny Nguyen got 8/10 hits on this stage.

Stage 8. 300 yard Time Ticking Down. On the beep, engage the 8" circle at 300 yards from the prone position with 1 shot. This stage is shot as 5 separate passes with descending par times per pass as follows: 17, 14, 11, 8, and 5 seconds. I like this stage and I changed the plate size from 6" to 8" because I thought that it was too small. 5 people cleaned this stage. I guess I made the plate too big!!

Stage 9. 300 yard Unsupported Prone. On the beep, engage the 300 yard 10" plate with 8 rounds. Only slings and gloves may be used. No other form of support allowed. John Lee scored the most hits on this stage. Congrats 6 out of 8 shots

Stage 10. Man on Man. On the beep, engage the the 200 yard little men. Winner advances to the next round until there is a final winner. This one was exciting. Came down to Jeff Butler shooting an AR and Solomon Manansala shooting a bolt action. Guess this settles it as to what is faster. The winner and match winner with the 50pt bonus was Solomon.

There was a tie for 2nd place and top 308. It was settled by another round of Man/Man with John Lee and Danny Nguyen. Win went to John Lee for 2nd place and Top 308. 3rd place was Danny Nguyen.
