    Got some extra money.

My long range rig is currently a remington 700 SPS-V in a HS precision M24 stock with a badger base and leupy mk4 rings and mk4 scope with m1 knobs.
Already have a reloading set up but I have around 700 bucks to spend. Is there any decent priced good range finders out there? Or maybe a nice spotting scope with mil dots? or binos? Just looking for something to blow my money on. I do a lot of unknown distance shooting I have been using known size targets and milling them with good results not great but good enough.

Leica LRF or CRF. A little more money would be the Swarovski Laser Guide. I'd get the Leica and use the remaining money to save for a Nightforce.

I'm fine with what my MK4 does for now and thats pretty much the top of my budget anyways. I have had it for a couple years now and it works just fine. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a USO :P . Maybe I should buy a AICS... nahhh but I really do want one .

load up on reloading components. you don't need a lrf on square ranges, and when your out in the blm areas, just use your friend's lrf or mill it.

with $700, order two thousand bullets of your choice, 2 8lb jugs of powder of choice, and 2k primers of wolf large rifle primers.

you'll increase your skill level by doing this rather then using something every now and then.

check out the nosler line if your shooting 30cal, the 175 noslers are a great deal.

I was also thinking of just loading up on reloading supplies like you said pistolpete75. I have not ran 175's through my rifle yet. Mostly 155's and 168's but the 1/12 should stabilize them correct?

If you don't shoot mainly on square ranges, geting rid of the distance variable is essential. You could shoot a thousand rounds and not learn anything. You NEED to know range to target to begin to learn anything meaningful.

ryan is right. you need to know the distance before shooting your target, but most people already have a lrf. all you got to do is just ask, hey what's the distance?

at square ranges, it's too easy. it's always 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, etc etc. of course, plus or minus 5 yards of the target depending on where your shooting from which really doesn't make a difference.

i never suggested of buying ammo to just shoot it. that would be a waste of money.

ideally 1:11.25 is ideal for 175s, however 1:12 is just fine. shoot whatever works best in your rifle. 155, 168, or 175s. 168s works great from like 600 or less. i still love 168s noslers. if your gonna go longer then that, try the 155s and 175s.

He's my delemma. No matter ammo you use, the .243 guys are going to out shoot your .308. I'm a classis example of your situation. Now that I sort of got the .308 down I WANT A 243. Every match I shoot I'm obsolete. I feel like the US Government, get delivery just in time to order the next (current) generation. I shot Randall's 243 at 1000 yards and was dead on.

I know how a .243 performs but my next upgrade is going to be a 6.5x47 Lapua. I don't mind if other guns are out performing my gun, I love my gun! I mostly shoot steel anyways. Also I NEVER shoot on squared ranges, Like I said I have been milling steel targets so far and it's working good but I need to get a LRF in the mean time I'm picking up a skill "Milling" that if the LRF cant pick it up I can fall back on to get me at close.

                        Ben,

You are not obsolete....Just like the post office, you still deliver every day, just takes a little longer....

Hey...did you get your pkg yet....?

I want a 243 as well and a Ferrari and a Porche, but my Ford still gets me there and back (when it has a working motor).

Not always true. Ballistically, yes. I have out shot lasers with a simple .308win shooting a simple 168grainer. I have also seen .308 shooters outshoot lasers.

However, the first time I shot a .243win (107smk), my hit rate went up. I noticed it from 400yards and up.

With my R+D .243 win, I am able to hit 1/2moa targets at 600yard consistantly.

Equipment won't make a shooter shoot well. However, it will make a experienced shooter, shoot even better.

Going back to the topic .308 vs lasers. .308s are still in a class of themselves (and 155grainer shooters have the advantage).

Heavy stocks like an AICS or an A5 sniper fill with a heavy bull barrel gives some "slack" for shooter errors. Light builds pick up on every little shooting error, and makes you go back to the fundementals.

                          Bserebreni,

Use my 107smk load or use my throater to shoot 115dtacs. And if you find any 115 dtacs, let me know. I'm down to my last two hundred.
