    CaPRC Marksmanship Clinic A (April 17, 2016)

Come on out and join us at Angeles for our new precision rifle shooter orientation on Sunday April 17th.
This will be day 1 of a 4 training days to complete the full set of marksmanship clinics.
We will teach how to get behind the gun/scope, attaining proper eye relief, using the features of the scope and natural point of aim.
Then we will check your zero at 100yds and get the knobs set to zero and work on the basics of marksmanship.
The course curriculum was written by a former USMC scout sniper instructor.
This is a beginning precision rifle shooter clinic so we will concentrate on basic marksmanship as it is the basis of all future learning.
This will be shot at 100yds.
Fees are $75 for non members or $50 for club members.
The entry fee covers the classroom session, cold drinks and BBQ lunch.
We will limit this to 20 shooters.
Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 4pm.
You may attend the classroom portion as a non-shooter and then observe the shooting portion of the day for a reduced $25 non-shooter fee.

    Tentative schedule as follows:
8:30 Sign-in at hunters education classroom
9:00 Classroom session at hunters education classroom
11:45 move to the Eagles Nest "C" range and safety briefing
12:00 verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (10 rds)
    12:30 BBQ lunch break
1:00-4pm open shooting time with instruction

    Some things to bring:
Precision bolt-action rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 80 rounds of match quality ammo, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad and a pencil or pen to take notes.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.

This is a Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting tight groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
If possible, please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.

This announcement is being posted early so that you can mark your calendars. RSVPs for this event will open in March. At the appropriate time, you can RSVP here:

There is disagreement on this. I say just bring whatever you have because it seems to me that 99% of rifles outshoot what their owners are capable of shooting. Others say an AR10 isn't accurate enough or may not be accurate enough, depending on what kind of AR10 it is (most of them are not accurate).

The announcement says precision bolt-action rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, so bring a precision bolt-action rifle wearing a scope with target knobs.

The issue is that autoloaders also auto-eject the brass.
These clinics are run in very tight confines so we can't have your rifle kicking hot brass on to your line neighbor who might be 2-3ft from you.

When we used to allow autoloaders, we ended up spending an inordinate amount of time with those students with gun and position related problems that we don't have to deal with on bolt guns.
For simplicity, we now run the clinics as bolt-action only.
There have been more than enough bolt action shooters to fill the class every year.

Is the bolt action requirement a hard and fast rule? What if a brass deflector was used? I ask because I'm interested in learning, but don't own a bolt gun at the moment.

I will certainly play by whatever rules you have. If the bolt gun is a hard and fast requirement, I won't argue.

                Yes.
Autoloaders don't behave the same way that bolt gun do.
We often have loaner guns available if you ASK for one when you RSVP.
You would just need to shoot factory match ammo when you use one of the loaner guns.

Got it. Thanks for the reply. For now I'd like to stick with guns I own, but thanks for the offer.
