I've known about calguns for a while but joined after my first gun purchase, picked up a 10/22 a couple of weeks ago. I'm having a little trouble finding ammo for it but I gather that's a very common problem.
I was doing some searching through the FAQs and I know that there are no state laws pertaining to unloaded rifles in vehicles in CA, only a federal law saying that it must be in a locked container when 1000ft near schools. My question is, I have a nonlocking soft gun bag, and I store my 10/22 in it with Ruger's locking brace in the action to render it inoperable. Is this insufficient for the federal law? Do I have to buy an actual hard case with a lock?
