hi all.. new member here. shot guns before in the past at the range, etc. but now looking to own a 9mm for HD.

question i have is once i pass the test and the background check, how long is that valid for before i have to decide to buy a gun?

here are the guns i'm looking at:
Glock19
Sig P229
HK P7 - can't find at the range to try out. seems to be very boutique, but i love the reviews i've seen so far on youtube.

if anyone has a P7 i can try out, i'd pay for the ammo just to try it out. thx~

Gerry Brown signed SB 683 this October which basically just gives the HSC a new name, Firearms Safety Certificate. A valid HSC will carry over when the FSC kicks in Jan 1, 2015. Only difference, a FSC will now be required for rifle/long gun purchases when it wasn't before.

1: decide which gun to buy
2: find the best price
3: go take the HSC (what a joke) and fill out the other paperwork (another joke), wait your 10 days (really big joke).
4: pick up your gun.

Or

Move to a free state
1-2: same as above
3: pass an instant background check
4: take your gun home

Unless you have small hands or can conceal carry, get a 17 or even a 34. Usually smaller pistols with shorter barrels are less acurate. I bought a Gen III 34 and added a Surefire X300 Ultra and Triijicon HD sights. An awesome gun.
