Quick question, did anyone make the same mistake I made earlier this year by buying their first AR, instead of waiting for the frenzy to die down???

Welcome! And no, I didn't make that mistake. The mistake I made was buying a bushmaster Cali legal back before the bullet button took off! Got a great deal on an unfired used one though. Before the guy got out to shoot it, his wife found out he bought it, she had a conniption and made him sell it. At the time, I thought his loss was my gain, now, not so much!
