Born and raised in the Bay Area. My pop is a firearms instructor and I have shot my fair share of guns. But I have never owned a handgun. Will be acquiring one soon via intrafamilial transfer. Got a couple questions about that. Should I post it in this thread or in the handgun forum?

The questions I have are: My dad will be purchasing a Glock 35 for me as a gift. Is there a period of time that he must maintain ownership before we can do the intrafamilial transfer? After I get my HSC, can I take possession of the gun, and then send in the transfer forms. Or do I have to send in the transfer forms and then wait for the DOJ response before I take ownership? I'm assuming the latter since they have to do a background check?Comment

Welcome. I'm hoping that your Dad is a CA resident also. Get your HSC as it will be needed. There is no magic wait time for a gift so you should be good to go when you mail the forms and attach your check. Suggestion, send it priority mail with tracking.Comment

Welcome aboard! I don't know the intricacies of gift purchases, especially inter-familial transfers so won't offer an opinion on your questions. However, most time questions are better researched/asked in the appropriate subforum as you rightly asked in your opening post since most folks here don't look into the "new here" area for Qs to A.Comment
