Hello, new user here from Orange, CA

    Hello,

I am new here and would like to introduce myself and ask a few questions.

I have always been a fan of guns, but do not own any real guns. I have been shooting BB guns in my backyard as a kid since I was 10. Now I am 26, feel more responsible with my life and my money, and would like to start my hobby of shooting real guns.

Currently my true passion is a bolt action rifle, particularly the Mauser 98k. I stopped by my local Big 5 Sporting Goods, and they all have Mosin Nagants, which I can admire too, especially for the current $119 price. The ammo is cheap too, roughly $0.20 a round I think.

That is my backup option, but I really would like to own a Mauser 98k (particularly the K98K). I know the 8mm round is vanishing; it seems like the 8mm price has been going up, almost a dollar per round now I think. I found a K98K rebarreled for 7.62 (Israeli K98K) for $500 which I think I will enjoy financially as the ammo is cheaper, but now I am reading that there is a big problem with getting a gun to CA, especially with auctions. Some people seem to specifically say they don't deal with California.
I am a total newbie to the laws and regulations. I just really want to start my hobby, and really would like to own a Mauser 98K.

Can anyone please guide me through step by step?

Also, I was looking at https://www.samcoglobal.com/1-M98k.html which doesn't seem to be too bad either. If you can assist me in my search it would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thank you all.

welcome to calguns, and the mauser 98 action is one of my favorite out of all bolt actions rifles I have ever had.

      Welcome aboard !

If going the auction route, make sure the seller will ship to CA, before you bid!

Welcome to CALGUNS from a guy in Orange.

My son is almost your age... I've taught a lot of my son's friends - and guys at work how to shoot. With lots of free advice thrown in.

Caveat - I'm not a rifle expert - at all. Saiga, a Glenfield/Marlin model 60 (22LR)... More into handguns - just cause there aren't many places to shoot a rifle locally. And shooting a rifle at an indoor range is pretty boring..

So - if ya want, send me any PM's/email questions you have. I'll try to help you or point you to smarter guys who CAN help you.

            .

Welcome to Calguns. Consider getting your 03FFL. You could then order C&R long guns online and have them shipped to your door (at least until Jan 01, 2014).

Welcome aboard! I don't have any direct advice for your search. But, most folks here don't look into the "new here" area for Qs to A. So you'd be better served looking into the centerfire rifles or Curio&Relic areas for ideas; good luck on your search.
CalGuns Network (CGN) is different from CalGuns Foundation (CGF). Both need our support. I have gold name because I support CGN; plus, I send $10 every two weeks to CGF automatically via online BillPay as described here.

Support CGF by shopping at Amazon!
