    Intrafamilial transfer

Hi, I am very new to your community, but I am already learning so much!

I am a woman new to guns, and have my heart set on a Glock 19, gen4. My dad, who lives out of state, has one to give me. I am having some trouble getting a CA FFL to help me with the transfer. The first one said, "Gen4 is only for LEO." I explained that intrafamilial transfer is legal for this gun and he did not respond back to me. The other FFL I contacted responded with one sentence: "We charge $150 for dealer to dealer transfers."

Now, as I stated, I am a novice, but isn't that fee a bit excessive? I live in the LA area, and wonder if anyone has info on a good FFL who will charge a fair price, OR has a Glock 19 Gen4 to sell.

Thanks much. I am finding that gun people are just good people who are very willing to help newbies.

Try Ammo Bros in Cerritos, or Riflegear. Gun stores can be a pain, and most of them have, at best, a very rudimentary idea of customer service. Sometimes it seems like they only stay in business because the state and federal governments make it so that you can't be without them. With that said, Ammo Bros and Riflegear know their stuff, and have decent customer service. The transfer fee is $75.

Is Gen4 on the list? I think that it has to be.

But maybe not. Someone will be along shortly.

What confuses me is, if they were perfect Gen 1, who needs the other Gens?

Off roster, but it is legal if it was transferred from parent or grandparent. Gen 4 features better spring for recoil and ambidextrous mag release for lefty shooters like me.

Ok then you just need a reasonable FFL who knows the law. Insert zip code and start calling, or post in the FFL forum with a more exact location.

Can you get up to the Thosand Oaks area? If so, shoot EBR Works an email. If Simi Valley is easier, shoot Kermesa a PM. I'm sure either one will help you and not charge you a lot.

                  Intrafamilial transfer

Do you need an FFL for a intrafamilial transfer?
The DOJ Form BOF4544A for doesn't have anything about FFL or any other partys except the Owner and relationship of seller.

For interstate transfer, the Feds require an FFL, so the DROS does the same duty as the form would do - for a transfer between California intrafamily residents.

+1 on contacting RifleGear in Fountain Valley. They know about out-of-state intra-familial gift exemption.

The Gen4 Glocks do not have an ambidextrous mag release, they use a reversable mag release. So, you can switch it from the standard side to the non-standard side. Be advised that if you switch the mag release to the non-standard side, only the newest generation of Glock magazines will work.

Also, make sure that your dad ships the Gen4 Glock with 10 round magazines.

Not legal to use that form for an intra-familial transfer that crosses state lines.

Federal laws require the handgun to be transfered through a FFL dealer.

If they transfer the handgun without using a CA FFL dealer and she sends in the form, her father and her will both be committing a Federal felony and sending in the form documents the fact that they broke Federal laws by transfering it without using a CA FFL dealer.

Thank you all for your help. It has been VERY enlightening, but even so, I still have another question or two.

Can Dad ship the gun directly to a CA FFL, or does he have to use his FFL to ship to mine? I keep seeing conflicting information from different sources re: this.

There is not a law, it is up to the FFL. IF the transaction does not go through (like if you are disqualified for some reason), the gun has to be returned, via a FFL, to your dad. Some California FFL's would like that other FFL to be in the loop at the beginning.
