    Hello from new member

    Hello everyone,
I am moving to CA in a couple weeks and I thought now might be a good time to join the forum. I've been trying to read up on the laws but I admit I'm a little overwhelmed. I think I'll post some of my questions here...

I've already given up the idea of being able to carry daily as it seems that is all but impossible in the bay area. However I'm hoping I can at least keep some firearms in my apartment.

First, I wanted to keep my handgun (for which I have a Utah CWP, useless in CA) in the apartment for SD purposes. It seems that this is legal, however, in order to actually bring the handgun into my apartment, as I would be arriving by plane, I am not sure how to legally transport from the airport to my apartment as I won't have a motor vehicle yet. Is it legal to carry it in a locked container inside my luggage, or is it necessary to take it out of my luggage and then wear it openly, which would probably scare the pants off everyone on the train? If that id the case, I don't think I could bring myself to bring it under those conditions.

The second gun I wanted to keep in my apartment is an antique double barreled shotgun which was used by my grandfather, my father, and passed down to myself. It has been used in a museum exhibition about my grandfather. Thus I think it classifies as a C&R gun. Does this mean that I need some additional C&R license just to take my rightfully inherited gun into the state?

Welcome, unloaded in a locked container is fine for flying and the train ride in. I know our CA DOJ has a voluntary handgun registration form they want filled out sometime after your arrival.

What kind of handgun is it?

I believe a long gun like your shotgun should be fine (so long as its legal federally ie 18" bbl 26" oal).

Here's a pdf file for the voluntary registration form

You have 60 days (from your arrival) to complete it. If you have magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, they can come with you, but only if they are dissassembled or converted to only accept 10 rounds.

Thanks for the info. It's a Glock 26. I suppose registering it would be a good idea and I see no reason why not to.

Welcome aboard and to CA. You might be better off asking your specific questions in the specific areas (legal, or maybe general). Not too many people look in the welcome area to answer questions.
CalGuns Network (CGN) is different from CalGuns Foundation (CGF). Both need our support. I have gold name because I support CGN; plus, I send $10 every two weeks to CGF automatically via online BillPay as described here.

Support CGF by shopping at Amazon!
