    new member with a question?

hey there everyone, just like to say this is a great site for us cal gunners seeing were few but strong. so my question is a handgun i received from my father that i am now wanting to sell. to start the firearm is a Beretta mod.92 d compact L 9mm, which is no longer on the california list so i can no longer sell or trade to a dealer but can sell to a private party. the handgun came from my brother-in-law who sold my dad a few firearms in nevada. there, my pops said all he needs is a paper trail of the weapon, like a bill of sale which he has for it and all other weapons. now, a few years later he has given it to me and i am wanting to sell it due to it not being the type of action i am looking for. what is needed if anything for me to legally sell this handgun in california or what steps to i need to take to do so. i will be selling it with two of the factory rebuild magazines as well. i wanted to post it for sale or trade on the forums but first want to know what i need to do so if sold/trade it will be a smooth transaction.
thank you and hope to fig this one out.

Is the gun already legally transferred to you?
I'm talking about filling out the proper forms and paying the fee to have it transferred from your dad to you or did your dad just say,"Here, you can have this gun."

Thanks for the welcom 888. I guess Thats what I was wondering to start. My father and I just havnt done the transfer to me yet due to not knowing how to go about it with him being from Nevada and only having a paper trail. He's back in California as well but I'm pretty sure he also still has a residency in nevada. He's actually in Rocklin ca. And I'm down in alameda. If all we have to do is go into a dealer and his bill of sale will work then I'll get on that ASAP.

Aroomate of mine at UCBerkeley had this happen where her fiance left her a handgun when they were engaged and then was shipped off to Afghanistn/ She was able to get a "Powr of Attourney" sgined by him and when she went to sell it/ she just brought her id and put her info on the seller part of the papers/
So if you ask me/get a Power of Attorney signed by you and your dad I guess/ and save your paperwork with the Poweer of Attourney.

The above advise is for Selling the gun transfered to you by your dad/ From how I see it Your dad can privately transfer it to you since he is now in CA asn well as you/

Welcome aboard; sorry I don't know the answer to your question. You might try asking in the general area since not too many folks check the "new-to" area for questions.
