New to CA and Calguns.net

Hey everyone, my name is Travis, I am new to CA, been here for like two days now, just moved from Central OR. I am in Riverbank, near Stockton/Modesto. I have a small number of fire arms, nothing special, just a nice .22 revolver handgun that I have my kids shoot, and that I use for plinking and having fun, then I also have my 9mm handgun, and my 30-06 hunting rifle. I am trying to figure out where I can legally go plinking around here though, so far it looks like my choices are a firing range, or a firing range... I hate shooting in ranges. I come from Central OR, where everyone has a gun, and you can drive like two minutes outside of town, and shoot all you want as long as you do it safely, meaning have a good backdrop know where your rounds are going etc. The Police occasionally came out there, but the most they would do is sit back and BS with you for a while, sometimes plink a little bit with their fire arms even while on duty. Over here, it seems like people are all afraid of firearms, and it feels almost like everyone around here thinks the only people with guns are criminals... Please tell me not everyone around here is like that, and that there are places to shoot where I can pack a lunch and take the family out for a day of just plinking around.

Sorry to hear that you came from a more gun-tolerant state to the land of the antis. It all kind of radiates outward from San Francisco, like a plague or radioactive fallout.

Unless you are out in the boonies, you probably are stuck going to ranges. Still, being in the Stockton area you might be able to get into the Sierras and shoot. Others on CG can help you out with finding BLM land.

Chya, I firmly believe what our Sheriff in Prineville and Madras OR thought, and that was that everyone should own a gun. Out there, we all had a gun, and there was little or no crime. If you went out for a day of plinking, and forgot to take your handgun out of your holster, and still had it on your side when you walked into the store, no one even noticed or cared. It is just a simple part of life out there. Now I come out here to CA and if some one even hears that I have a gun in a locked gunsafe, they start freaking out. By the way, does anyone know where a good place is to look up information to get my CA concealed carry permit? I have my one for OR, but like I said, I am new to CA and need to get one for here so I can legally carry again.
