    Arizona Noob

Hi everyone. I live in Phoenix AZ. I have a business in Phoenix and in San Diego. I travel back and forth on a weekly basis. I lived in Lakewood CA until I was 25 and have been in Phoenix for 15 years.

I have not been traveling with any firearms until I went to great little gun shop in Poway. I was surprised to see AR15s on the wall. I left CA shortly after the "ban".

    I now travel with a Glock 27 in .40.

Here are a couple of questions I have.

    1) How does a "bullet button" on an AR get around the ban. Is it because of the tool required?

    2) Old high caps are still legal?

    Thanks for the info.

    Tom

1/ Yes, a bullet is needed to remove the mag.
2/ Yes, if you owned then prior to 2000.

hey tom, well to answer your questions.

      1) The bullet button just makes it so you are unable to drop your mag without the use of a tool. As long as you have that bullet button and are using a mag capable of accepting ONLY 10 rounds, you are able to have a pistol grip, forward pistol grip, telescopic stock, flash suppressor, 37mm flare launcher, the whole nine.

      2) Yes, if you owned a mag capable of holding greater than 10 rounds prior to the ban you are able to use them in whats called a featureless rifle. Which is basically a rifle with none of the features listed above. Guys with ARs that want to drop 30 round mags have to install a fixed stock, a piece over the pistol grip so you are not able to grip it with a fist, replace the flash suppressor with a brake, and not have a forward pistol grip or flare launcher.

I think that covers it...i know ill be corrected if i am missing something or got something wrong.

Thanks for the info. So even with the "bullet button" ARs can only have 10 round mags?

welcome aboard! Your Q's got answers; but for future look in the various subforums (such as centerfire rifles for these specific questions).

CalGuns Network (CGN) is different from CalGuns Foundation (CGF). Both need our support. I have gold name because I support CGN; plus, I send $10 every two weeks to CGF automatically via online BillPay as described here.

Support CGF by shopping at Amazon!
