I'm also from San Diego! You happen to know of any safe BLM places to plink around in? I know that a lot of the popular places to shoot are either up at Ironsights in Oceanside, or to shoot out in the open off the 8. I was hoping someone might know of a spot somewhere closer!

Just last week was my first time shooting out in the desert with my new Moss 500 and we asked a ranger out there where to go and found the location relatively easilly.

You take the 78 east to where Ocotillo Wells is then there is a road called "Split Mountain Road" on the right (south side) before the San Diego County/Imperial County line that you take south for a few miles, it will become a dirt road then when you see a side road heading east right next to train tracks you take that for about a 1/4 mile and you will start seeing lots of people shooting.

If you go out to Ocotillo Wells you just ask any ranger or cop and they will help you find it if my directions fail.

Gah, I looked it up, and that's going to be quite a drive. But as I feared, that may be my best option so far.

Yeah, we were out there to have some fun in my new Jeep and the shotgun shooting was the 2nd priority if we we were able to find a location.

I'm happy we were able to find a location!

Ahaha very awesome! I'll make sure if I make it out there, I'll have enough rounds to make it worthwhile.

Welcome. How is the road to that shooting place you mentioned above? Passenger car passable?
