flash hider and threaded barrel rules for Calif.

These are probably stupid questions but here goes.

I have an AK PAR-1 which is a pump action Romanian AK-47 variant that is obviously not a semi-auto rifle. When imported to the U.S., the Romanians spot welded the non compensator non flash hider ( I don't know what it is except to say "The big ugly" ) to the barrel. With a dremel; I can probably remove it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it is threaded on. I would like to replace it with a flash hider.

#1. Since this is not an "assault weapon", is it legal for me to use a flash hider?

#2. If it is legal to have a flash hider, must I spot weld it on to the barrel?

#3. If it is not legal to install a flash hider, can I install a compensator without re-welding it to the barrel.

I realize that the overall length of the rifle with a folding stock on it, as mine will have, must be over 26 inches. Perhaps the problem with not welding on the compensator or flash hider would come into play if one counts the legal length of a rifle with the non-secured hider or compensator; with it being off the rifle and measured to the threaded end of the barrel. ( I'm confusing my self if I'm not confusing you guys ). Thanks for any info or suggested reading sources. Have a Happy New Year!!!!!!!

      1. A RAW can have a FH. Any other firearm can also have a FH except for non-RAW semi auto center fire rifles with detachable mags.

      2. The only reasons that it would have to be permantently attached would be if the barrel was shorter than 16" and by welding an extention on, it would be +16". Or, if you were talking about a non-RAW semi auto handgun.

      3. You can install either on your Para without having to weld anything.

BTW, let me know if your barrel is really threaded.
