The small red outlined triangle in the upper r/h corner of a post or private message and would like to know the purpose and the guidelines surronding each. I would like a precise understanding of each and couldn't find any doing a search...

That small red triangle is the report post button.

Use it when you need to alert a moderator of a problematic post. Usually used for rule violations, inappropriate posts, etc.
