Hello, New guy here, need AK help!!

I apologize in advance if this has been posted before, but i want to know if there is any place where i can get a California legal AK (any 7.62 or 5.45 AK derivative or Saiga will do) for a decent and fair price. I dont have any gun stores around me only pawn shops where an all black WASR-10 (Romanian) is $600 and a Saiga is near $400. If anyone here has an AK or Saiga they want to get rid of or have multiples, I am all ears!

Im sorry i should have put that first, and thank you for welcoming me. I am in San Diego, CA. I'm not one really for Saigas, I dont know to much about them, but $400 is what an AK should go for, shouldnt saigas be cheaper?

How are you coming up with your opinion of what a "fair price" is? You are probably not going to find an AK for $400 in a retail shop anywhere in the country. You can build one from a $100 parts kit, $100 barrel, $25 flat, $20 for rivets and center support, $30 for a US made G2 FCG, $10 for a US made PG, $10 for a US made slant brake and $60 to attend a build party. No garentee that you won't need to attend a second BP to finish up though.

Uh, OK. So, how are you deciding on what they are worth? Personally, I still think that they are only "worth" about $100 but, current market price is a bit more than that. Anyway, sure\, you can find a Ca legal (no PG) WASR for about $400. But, after shipping, tax, FFL fees, DROS, PG, PG screw and nut, a mag lock, grip wrap or MM and a couple mags, you're looking at $550ish or more. Anyway, good luck finding the $250 AKs of yester year.

I was offered an Ak once for 250, wasnt regestered or ca legal so i turned it down. and im sorry what is PG? And all of the mag locks and all that crap is already done. AND the Draco is classified as a hangun so do you have to be 21 to aquire one?

Riflegear and a one shop in SD should have them. Out the door total and it is $580ish for everything and fees.

So you are valuing legal firearms from information you have about illegal guns? Bad idea. They are two different things. A $250 illegal gun's worthis what you paid for it plus +$100,000 and several years in prison. Anyway, PG=pistol grip, "all that crap is already done" usually means that the seller went the cheap way and removed the PG. That's all that is required on most AK type rifles to make them Ca legal. Yet, if you want a PG or any other feature, you'll have to put a mag lock on it. The Dracos are handguns and sold as single shot target pistols. Yes, like any other handgun, you need to be 21 to purchase one and 18 to own one.

                            To the original poster:
I'd recommend getting a Saiga if you want a rifle (I have one now- it shoots cheap, range-safe yugo surplus like there's no tomorrow). If you want something that will stand out, go for the Draco (I'm looking for one now). Either one will run you about $400 plus fees (so ~$450-$500 total), and that's if you're lucky enough to find a decent price. And yes, to get the Draco or any other pistol here you have to come up with an additional proof of residency and be at least 21 years old.

                            Best of luck.
