New to Calguns.

I saw some discussion on long range shooting. I'm retired, a target pistol shooter for a few years and a CCW carrier, licensed in ILLINOIS and UTAH. with memberships in the GSL and USCCA. My choice of firearms that I frequently use at our local indoor range are RIA/S&W/BROWNNG and RUGER, in 9mm/22lr and TCM22 calibers.

Recently, I've found an interest in the RPR format chambered in .223, since this caliber seems to be more cost efficient for me. Also, I live just outside of the Chicago metropolitan area. Not too many outdoor ranges within at least a two or more hour drive from home that may exceed 300 yards. There are only two that I know of that max out to 500yrds.

As I understand the .223 caliber would suit my needs for these distances. However, as I'm new to the rifle platform, I've read that some dealers advertise the RPR as chambered in .223/5.56NATO. I can't seem to get an answer as to the order of chambering. I can see if the stamping on the barrel is 5.56/.223, one could use either caliber. However, if the barrel is stamped an chambered to .223/5.56; I've read that the 5.56NATO round renders 10,000 psi more than the .223 round. If that's the case, it may be just a matter of time that this could cause a serious condition when at battery. Food for thought????
