shotgun time

Hey everyone,
I'm getting married in about a month; and my future wife and I are moving into our new place right after the wedding. Right now I'm in the search for some home defense. I have a rifle and waiting for my handgun to come in. I know a shotgun would be the best type of home defense, but I also want something I can possibly take to the range to shoot skeet or whatever.

Any suggestions on some great shotguns for home defense, and/or range shooting?

My advice: So any different threads about this that you can spend some time browsing through the pages in the Shotgun Discussions forum and come across exactly what you're asking for pretty often (I know because I've usually contributed info into those threads).

You'll always her the Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590 discussions, as that's like saying Ford or Chevy. Either is good, both feel about the same when shooting. Go and hold them and see how they fell in your hands, how it feels to cycle them, how it feels when shouldered and aimed, etc. There are many others from cheaper alternatives that are very good, if not just as good IMO (like Hawk or Maverick), or you can find the more expensive to Benelli's or Saiga's or others. There's always the discussion of pump vs. auto, but again it depends on what you want out of it and what you plan to do with it.

Just read up, hold some shotguns, rent them at the range and shoot them if you can, and make your decision that way. Most of the info you have will be biased towards certain models that people like, but it's still good info to read up and and to take in as additional info.
