I'm from Calgary, AB, which has many the same gun laws and restrictions as Cali. I work in the oil industry and enjoy making hippies and mother nature scream.

Well, it's about 10,000 times more complex then it needs to be, but here's the gist.

Long Guns
Semi-auto centerfire rifles / shotguns - can only hold 5 rounds max
bolt / lever action centerfire rifles - unlimited capacity
Pump action - shotgun - 5 rounds (I think)
Rimfire rifle - unlimited capacity

All long guns must be a minimum of 26" OAL UNLESS they are manufactured and sold less then that. I.E. We can own SBS's up here, but we must buy them in SBS configuration (under 26" OAL) from the factory. I cannot go out and buy a shotgun, cut the barrel down to 6" and put a pistol grip on it myself, however, if it is sold like that from the manufacturer then it's okay.

Handguns
Must have a barrel length of greater then 4.15"
Must have a magazine capacity of 10 or less.

What we do to get around the laws up here in regard to handguns is sometimes either the manufacturer or aftermarket will custom make some extended length barrels for us.

We have an assortment of G19's and Sig 229's up here, it's just that the barrel sticks out beyond the slide a touch.

Unfortunately, nothing can be carried unless you apply for a "ATC" (Authorization To Carry). To get one of those, you have to prove that you could potentially be in danger due to either A) wildlife or B) another human being.

Joe citizen can apply for an ATC, but will be denied, whereas a miner or trapper could apply and if he proves he could be threatened by lets say bears, then they might give him one.

It's a little more in depth then what I've described, but that's more or less the major points.

Have you had a chance to play with a Tavor yet? I know Canada doesn't have the same import restrictions so you get some neat imports. Lots of people here are drolling over the photos of the Tavor and Charles Daly is trying to bring it here. I also thought I saw a semi auto STG44 over there, have you had a chance to play with one of those?

Oh yeah, that guy is defintly in Canada. We CAN buy box mags that are larger then 5 rounds for a semi-auto, but the have to be pinned to 5 rounds max.

20 or 30 round AR mags are common up here, but the meat and potatoes of it is they are all pinned to 5 rounds.

I have no idea. I believe the AK and most variants were permanently banned on name only.

Yep, we can buy pretty well every Norinco brand gun there is. I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or not.
