    Just another new guy

New to CALGUNS, I'm from the east bay area in No Ca. Only recently I'm getting interested in buying a gun, but not sure what to get. Mostly for home protection , RV trips, and occasional trips to the range. I'm a senior guy and I'm not totally new to firearms but would like to get more involved. After a lot of reading, I think I've narrowed it down to CZ 75 SP-01 or a CZ 75 P-01. My friends keep telling me to get a 1911 45 ACP instead of a 9mm.

Welcome aboard. With your focus on CZ in 9mm, you can expect to receive a consensus that you are completely right and wrong. Enjoy the journey.

                Welcome aboard!

My recommendation is to go to a gun range that has rentals. Rent a few and see what you like to shoot. Once you have narrowed it down, buy them all!!

Welcome. I would ask the question in the handgun section to get more responses.

                  I would go with the SP-01. 9mm

Hello 1Carguy, welcome to Calguns. I think you will find that 9mm ammo is generally less expensive than .45 ACP so I vote to start with a CZ. That being said, you will probably end up with both a CZ and a 1911 at some point.

You are special to us, as a new member.

                      I'm retired.

used to have a 1911, all chrome with "Government Property" stamped on the side. Chrome was used for honor guards and parades. I sold it. Damn, so sorry.

                      This working with the Snubby.

Notice the small dab of flourescent orange paint on the front site? Ever tried a S&W model 60? 1 7/8" barrel.

Now (main shooter) I have a Browning High Power in 9mm. I love that gun, close in frame size to the 1911 (same holster), heavy; very nice as a combat pistol. Longer barrel, accurate, has 5" (4 5/8") barrel. Bench rest, you can bang the gong at 100 yds.

                      Welcome.

I ended up buying a Sig Sauer SP 2022 9mm. It has good reviews and it had a great price. I'm anxiously waiting for 8 more days until I can start playing.

Congrats, OP. Now, buy training and ammo.
