    another "new" guy

    Hi guys,

Im Jeff and Im in Orange County. Been shooting handguns for a while, but recently assembled a PSA ar15 and have put a few hundred rounds through it at a local indoor range.

Been wanting to go to Angeles Shooting range and try out the longer range, but ill be honest: i have no idea how ill do at distances longer than 25 yards.

At Angeles, can i place targets at 25 yards and then work my way out? I hate to waste ammo by just jumping to 100 yards. If not, whats the minimum distance i can start at?

If its 100 yard min, any pointers for a new guy? I was going to buy a sandbag, but might get a bipod too.

Good site and lots of good information!

    thanks guys!

Angeles has rental targets that you can place into wooden 4 x 4s at 50.
They are pvc so don't miss or there is a small fee for replacing the sections.

Hitting the 100 yards and longer steel is easier if you have a decent scope, at least with my older eyes.

There is a thread here about the range.

Is your AR featureless? If not, read the many threads here before going to the range. The new laws might get in your way until you register it. (Or not)
      (Apologies if you know this.)

There is another section at Angeles for pistols and steel targets so bring a couple handguns.

      Welcome.

        Hi guys

So sounds like 50 yards is the minimum for my ar15? No problem. Id just prefer to start at something im used to (25 yards)

No, not featureless (yet). I tried reading as much about this as i could stomach, but I was under the impression that this year was a grace period. I still have the BB and all the evil features. but am using 10 rd mags.

If there are ranges forcing compliance now (??) or DUI-style checkpoints at these ranges (kidding), then thats news to me. got a link?

        thanks

Have not heard of anyone enforcing yet, but transport is a problem.

Welcome Jeff, I go to Angeles shooting range once to twice a month. I just took a new Calgunner last month. Let me know if you'd want to meet up

Right side after the pistol section is the 100 yard gongs, but you can place targets anywhere under 100 yards. I have sandbags and bipods I can bring if you decide you'd want to meet up.

That sounds great! Id love to meet up with some of you guys and improve my technique. But, with work and my little boys, my schedule gets last minute sometimes. PM me a few days before you go (of if youre going soon) and ill try to make it. I hear weekdays are better?

so looking at a map, i see rifle side on the left, pistols on the right. on the rifle side, i can just put the pvc targets at 25 and work my way out? great to know!!

It is 50 yds. min. on the rifle side, not sure on the "pistol" side.

If your eyesight is good, 50 yards should not be too much of a problem.

                        Good luck.
