Hi guys! Long time lurker, first time poster. Just found out I'm probably getting stationed in Cali next summer(AD CG, definitely not by choice unfortunately
), and I need some help with a few guns.
I have several guns that I'm not sure if I can bring with me or not.
-Marlin 60
-S&W 15-22, w/ threaded barrel and VFG.
-Ares SCR w/ a 14.5" 6.8spc upper with a pinned/welded Surefire FH and a VFG
-Benelli Super Black Eagle w/ 4rd ext tube.
-Spikes AR15, pistol grip, adjustable stock, vfg, not pinned FH(probably gonna leave this one with Family in FL for the duration of my tour unless I can get a military permit).
I also have a spare stripped lower sitting in my safe(Spikes) that I was planning on bringing with me, to build up at some point in the future, unless I need to build it before I get there?
I'm pretty confident on the .22's and the benelli, but since the new laws going into effect the beginning of the year I wanted to be sure. The AR15 I will most likely leaving in FL(home state, with family) as it is sort of a labor of love that I've been working on for a few years and do not want to modify it any more.
The Ares I'm not sure about, because of the Flash hider. If I have to get the current FH cut off to have a brake perm installed, I'm not opposed to that as it is a favorite hunting rifle of mine, but not sure if I have to remove the VFG or not. I believe after that I am good to go with 10rd mags since its not an AW correct?
I'm also planning on buying another SCR lower as soon as they are made available again to build up as a 223 to bring with me as well, I just have to make sure it has either a non-threaded muzzle, or brake perm attached, correct?
Sorry for writing a book guys, but this is not a move that I was expecting at all, and it really came out of left field for me and my family, and CA was never even a place I envisioned myself moving to because of the general Anti-freedom loving laws there. Quite frankly I'm still in shock at this and I'm trying really hard to find the good in it, otherwise my other option at this point is to throw my current 8yrs of service out the window, and get out of the CG, but I'd prefer at this point to not have to do that.
Thank you for any help guys!
ETA: I've read a little bit about a "Military Assault Weapon Permit", but I was wondering if that is like the CWP, in that it is a "may issue" type thing, or is it I just need to get a CO's letter and send in the paperwork? Also noticed that one of the req's for that is a copy of my Mil ID, but that is strictly against Federal law. No one is allowed to copy/allow to be copied a military issued ID card.
