Tips on how to avoid posting duplicates?

As of this posting, there are 14,597,302 posts in Calguns. Dupes are no doubt likely to be created. I usually perform a few key word searches in advance to see if someone else has posted on the same subject. But that's the extent of my "pre-dupe checking." If someone else posted a youtube for example using other key words, I won't find it.

Are there any tips for dupe checking beyond key words?

And there may be prizes for the first person who tell me this post is a dupe.

The original of the post you are talking about has a strange title, like "if your stage has walls, look at this".

    Sometimes they can't be avoided.

In this instance, I want everyone to see the video.

Do your search using Google, but first and foremost, screw the effen dupe police.
Unless it is an absolute, up to the minute current event, any post is most likely a dupe.

Rule No. 1: don't worry about the effen dupe police.
Rule No. 2: never, ever apologize to the effen dupe police.

Anti dupe enforcement is getting out of control around here.

I was impersonating a dispute cop, btw.

            Things you'll never see.

Person 1: Hey guys, check out this video.
            Person 2: DUPE!
Person 3: <-- OMG, thank you so much!
            Person 4: You're the best!
Person 5: You make this forum and my life better.

Do a quick search using the Calguns search feature. If nothing comes up, post away. But since the search built into the system sucks balls, there still a good chance your posting a dupe if the item is trending on the Internet.

So here is the real key...don't give a ****. If it's a dupe, it's a dupe. Let someone else get their panties in a twist over it.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Nothing personal taken on posting dupes. I am seriously trying to get a list of "best dupe avoidance practice." A few quick checks and then if those are done, post it.
                1. Perform keyword search on Calguns. "This is hit or miss depending on the words you're searching for."

                2. Keyword search on Google doing the same thing. You could type this in the search bar "site: calguns.net (your search term(s) here)"

                2. Any ideas on finding embedded YouTubes? I searched on the embedded video code and nothing shows. Just place the code in the place of the search term in #2.

                3. Any others tips?

No worries. I sleep well. But if there's a group of folks already commenting on the same thing I'd prefer to read the comments first.

Don't title your threads with your reaction to the content - use nouns and verbs to describe the content.

That exercise will usually let you scan the forum where you want to post for other threads with descriptive terms in their titles.

Then, pick the correct forum. 'News' items almost never go to the more technically oriented forums such as handguns or semi-auto long guns. Questions about laws usually go to the How CA Law ... forum. Questions about court cases usually go to the CA Litigation forum.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
