Is it ok to request deals in Deals, Sales and Coupons forum?

Just as the title says. I always thought that the subforum was for the sharing of found deals, but we get a lot of requests for deals in there and I'm just wondering if that is what the site/mods meant for the forum.

Personally, I think if people start flooding the forum with threads asking for deals, it will get crowded. Can we just have one thread for people to post requests and maybe keep the main forum for sharing deals and coupons?

I would just like some clarification since we get bickering inside the request threads, too.

    No way!

On the other hand I would like free ice cream day...

    Hell yes!

I personally agree. I get annoyed at everyone who thinks they're special and their requests should get more exposure then all the people who post in the correct forums. I guess there is no real correct forum for a deal request, but lets use people who post WTB requests in the handgun/longgun sections as a comparison. There is a lot less traffic in the WTB section I find it irritating people who post in the wrong forum will get rewarded with the additional exposure.

Anyway, I just hope a mod or someone can just clarify on the subject and maybe edit the post at the top of the deals forum so we can stop the bickering when people say it is the wrong place to post a request and then get accused of being wannabe mods.

Most people that request deals are too lazy to actually do the work themselves IMHO. A behavior that shouldn't be rewarded.
Search 1st, ask 2nd, is one of the rules of the forum.
If rules are only enforced for some, but not all, what good are the rules ?

Example... the guy asking for deals on safes....all he had to do was search in the deals section and he would have found at least 2 threads in the last week that have deals on safes.

I have to also agree that when selfish people don't get the answer they desire, they tend to attack the person that calls them out on it.
Whats more amazing...when that person that outs them gets attacked for pointing out the person's laziness, he is thought to be snide, or a jerk.

Good luck OP in your endeavor to make things right.

Doesn't sound like a great idea, because this is likely to happen:

Hey, has anyone seen a deal on an eotech xps-3?

Sure, such and such.com has a deal for 5% off

Hey, has anyone seen a better deal on an eotech xps-3?

Well, this other site has it for 6% off

why the hell won't anyone post a good deal on what I'm looking for?

          Uhh, you got 2 deals

Yeah, well that's not what I want to pay

          <three weeks later>

Anyone seen a deal on an eotech xps-3?

People do a decent job of posting deals for all when they find 'em, and there are deal sections on other forums as well as of course slickguns.com and probably a couple other places as well. It's not that difficult to find. Then you've got the retailer and manufacturer specific sub-forums on places like calguns, arfcom, SH, etc. to look as well.

Just to be clear, that is the opposite of what I want. I PERSONALLY prefer it to be only for POSTING of deals, not asking.

But, it isn't in the "rules" of the forum so people do it left and right and get rewarded for it. I would just like it clarified if it is part of what the site owners/mods intended so I can either ignore the threads or hit the report button.

              .
Exactly. Searching on this site is quite easy. There are deals posted for just about everything. Expired deals give cal gunners tips on what vendors to look for, and what a "good deal" is on such and such firearm/accessory. Posting "need a deal" seems like it would be a nightmare, adding useless threads to a very useful forum.

if they didn't take the time to read the simple description directly beneath the thread link - which says: "Found a good deal or sale? Got a coupon or code? Share them here!"... they aren't going to take the time to search for the deal either... some people just don't get it - no matter how clearly defined something is.

BTW, people do the same thing in the section we are in now... I'm tempted to post links to all the non-related threads that get posted here, but I'm sure you've all seen them...

ETA: Ha! what a coincidence... in the "New to Calguns" section (which as always, clearly defines the area) - this thread is first up right now: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...6#post15299076 ... I get it, he's a noob... but being new is more reason to pay attention and learn the forum... like I said, some people just don't get it - and there's not much we can do about them (it's why Obama got elected, TWICE!)

What you are describing is a "Low information poster".....

It reminds me of a phrase.....

"If you see a dollar laying on the ground....

Would you ask a person to pick it up and give it to you... ??
Or would you pick it up yourself ... ?? "

I wish that the deals posted were for things that I want to buy. They normally are not. That just seems to be the case.
