    Stopping Spammers...

Is there something you ADMIN guys can do to stop the spammers? It's getting ridiculous.

You mean like the guys who post a thread with a bunch of links to like movies or whatever?

I only notice them really late at night or early in the morning, but cleaned up during the day. I assume the mods delete them as they find them.

I agree. Maybe do something like other forums do where you can't post for a few days after you create the acct, or something like the ARF does with the email requirements. That might even deter some anti plants from joining.

If you can't spot the spammer threads long before clicking on them you may have other things to worry about...

As of right now we use reCAPTCHA, email verification and a question/answer requirement to sign up.

Minimum post counts to make a thread have proven to cause spammers to reply to threads rather than create them, no real gain there.

Requiring the first 'X' posts to be approved is a MASSIVE time sink and puts added and undo pressure on volunteer Moderators. We're talking about hundreds of posts to approve per day.

Unfortunately Calguns is a high traffic site, 4Tb/month or more, and that makes us attractive to spammers. That said i am always looking for new ways to prevent spammers without impeding new real members.
