    Bumping old threads

With the current craze over a possibility of the AWB coming back, people are bumping threads that are considerably outdated. Is there any default thread lock setting that can be done after a certain amount of time with no activity in a thread?

There's a warning at the bottom of an old thread that makes you check a yes-box that essentially says "yes, this thread needs to be bumped with my response."

I see no problem as long as someone has a interest in the thread at the current time. And it has a relevance to what the bumper is posting. To just bump your own thread to bring it to the top would be kinda Lame though.

Heck a moderator here just bumped a thread that was 8 years old by adding and combining my new thread to the end of it. Now that was a moderator that did that. So it should be OK for us common people right,LOL

It's also annoying in the marketplace, where someone bumps a long-dormant sale posting with "is this still available?" instead of sending a PM to the seller.

Lots of ignorance on the FS forum here.

ANY QUESTIONS should always go to the seller by PM or email.

That also covers stupid "nice gun", "wish I had the money" / "wife's approval" / "a bigger safe", etc. that have ZERO to do with the OP.

I agree. It helps keep information centralized instead of spread out over more threads than necessary because of an arbitrary no-bumping rule.

As a new forum member, I have opened up a couple old threads to ask questions that weren't specifically addressed in a thread. Otherwise, it is not uncommon to start a new thread and have someone say "this has been covered before in xxx thread" and paste the link.

Or the "I would buy it if you were up north, south, in Costa Rica", etc.

And the seller that doesn't edit the OP to say "Sold", but bumps the tread with a "Sold".

If the thread content remains relevant, then I see no problem with resurrecting old threads. Too bad that can't happen all the time. Like the subject of electronic ear protection. Or spotting scopes. Or.....
