Minimum Post Requirements to use the Marketplace

I'm not sure how you guys feel but there are a lot of people sending me messages about purchasing my items that are either new to the board or have 400+ posts and every one of the posts are in the marketplace. I think that sucks.

I have come across this kind of member on other message boards and, in my experience, they usually buy stuff at a discount and resell it for a profit on another board. I've actually caught someone doing this and got into a PM argument with the guy on Sigforum.

The way I see it is that I am giving things away at a pretty good discount to people on this board but not if all they do is troll the marketplace to find good deals.

I know there are some other forums that make it a requirement that you must have a minimum number of posts until you are allowed to post in the marketplace. Why doesn't Calguns do this?

    What do you think?

400 posts, LOL, Fighterpilot would have qualified in the first ten minutes on CG's.
My point being, minimum post count seems like it would mean nothing.

Don't do that. Except for the members I have interacted with on sales and buys, and a few PM's, the rest of you are like Adam to me, but not so good. There are ways to get rid of stuff without giving away the store to newbs.

The bad part about the marketplace is that most of the time you have no idea who you are dealing with. There are good buyers and bad buyers, good sellers and bad sellers, so I don't think a post count matters. Saying that, what the person does with an item after they purchase it shouldn't make a big deal to the buyer. All you can do is list a higher amount in your post.

What I don't like and it happened a few weeks ago here, some guy posts an item WTS/WTT. A member contacts him and says "I want it", the guy posted back for the potential buyer to wait until the seller see's if any better trade offers come in" That's BS!

I bought a scope from a member back a month or so ago and I had a low post count and a zero marketplace rating, but I contacted him promptly, I paid promptly, and the item was shipped the same day as payment.

A couple years ago I sold a pair of Bose speakers to a neighbor for $75. He used them for three weeks and sold them for $250. Shoulda, coulda, woulda......
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

Post count discrimination? Seems legit. I have been on this site for a little over 2 years. Don't post that much. Should I not be allowed to post in the market place because I don't have enough posts. Should I comment on every thread I see with useless info just to get enough posts to post in the market place? Let's be real. Free enterprise. Sell to who you want.

I don't have much of one lol. I am a member of another forum unrelated to firearms and have 17K posts there since 2006. According to op that would be enough for me to qualify to post in the marketplace. If only they could roll over to here.

In my experience those kind of rules generally result in people making bs comments on random threads just to get to the limit.

Not to get carried away but really why care about what a person does with an item that you sold? Its out of your hands, its over, transaction complete let it go. I understand the intent behind it but come on that seems really a waste of time and of all the things to worry about the most trivial. If I sell an item its dead to me from then on I dont really care what happened once I get paid. and putting an arbitrary post count is elitist at best, juvenile at worst "this is my club house and you cant play". and not for nothing chainsaw that is the worst idea I have ever read " To fix this problem, I suggested a while ago that we only allow those people who have 100 posts already to post anything, anywhere. That would take care of newbies crapping on market place threads, and of people upping their post count artificially by adding nonsense to existing threads. It would also stopped the useless "QFT", "IBTL" and "tagged" posts."

If your idea were implemented YOU couldnt even post a thread because you only have 55 posts

I'm not exactly sure what the perceived problem is.

Are you opposed to people using forums as a primary tool to buy and sell things?

Or is it that you have been giving bargain prices to CalGuns members and feel those people who primarily just buy and sell here should not be getting that benefit?

With 129,000 members this is hardly a close knit group of friends. And especially now, lots of people are trying anything to make a buck and make ends meet. If they find a bargain here, buy it and turn around a post it for sale the next day ... more power to them.

I like to think that for a few of them, this helps feed their kids and pay their rent.

OP, I'll go one more. Anyone posting in the marketplace should have their own special log-in name that is their own REAL name, not just a made-up one. That way, it will eliminate most of the tire-kickers, multiple account people and thread crappers. Its also a good deterent for those that might think of ripping someone off.
