Implementing "Skip to first unread" globally?

Would it be possible to implement "Skip to first unread" globally for all threads instead of just subscribed threads?

One forum I read does this and it makes it much simpler to start reading where you left off, especially in huge or fast moving threads.

Once you are logged in, every thread on each subforum page has "Skip to first unread" implemented.

That is available here already. Look at the head of the thread title. I see a little downward facing carat ("^" but facing down). Click that to open the thread and auto go to the newest unread post in the thread.

This caret just seems to go to the last post of the thread, not the first post that I have not read.

From the site I listed here is a thread listing example (below). It shows the title of the thread, the author, how many pages and a "Skip to first unread" link. Clicking on that link with take me to the first post in the thread that I have not read, no matter how many posts have been added since I last looked at the thread.

Unless there is something on your end that is preventing it from happening,

OK, that is somewhat helpful as I had been looking at the downward facing caret at the top of the page next to "Last Post".

Its only somewhat useful in that it is only available in threads with new posts and for some reason many early morning threads/posts are already marked as read when I open subforum windows in the morning. Would be better if "Skip to first unread" applied to ALL posts as it does in the Dakka forum, not just threads with new posts.

Understood. There is a time limit for when you are considered logged on and no longer logged on (for lack of the actual term) with respect to new posts.

e.g. If I log on and there are 5 pages of new posts and I don't read a single one- but stay logged on- at some point, when I click "New Posts" again, those posts will be considered "read".

There may be a setting somewhere in the UserCP that affects this??

I did find this:

"Viewing New Posts or Today's Posts

How can I see the latest posts?

There are two ways to quickly view recently created or updated threads.

If you are not logged in, the 'today's posts' link will show a list of all threads that have been created or updated in the last 24 hours.

If you are logged in, the 'Today's Posts' link will change to 'New Posts', which gives you a listing of all threads that have been created or updated since your last visit.

The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.

There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as 'read' after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower."

So it looks like this switch just needs to be flipped to make it function. Looks like I will need to ask Kes to make it happen...
