If you respond to a PM; how quickly does it "go through"?

I responded to one and it does not show in my PM record (not the correct terminology) and have not received the expected response from the addressee.

If it doesn't appear in your Sent, then it might not have gone through. It's fairly instantaneous. Send it again.
