How the "New Posts" button works.

Let's say I login and check for new posts and I get 60 threads of new posts. I go through them and read them all and it takes 30 minutes. In that time it took me to check out the 60 threads, 30 other threads were made or added to but I do not know that yet. Then I click Quick links / Mark Forums Read.

Now, did I mark those 60 threads read, or 90? I think it makes everything that has been posted whether I read them or not. I wish it would only mark the 60 and let me look for new posts and discover the other 30.

I don't normally mark forums read so I'm not sure how it works, but I assume that it would mark any and all threads at that moment as "read".


Now, in normal usage, you shouldn't need to hit the button at all. Just click new posts, right-click all the threads you are interested, then go through and read the threads. Then hit new posts again and look to see what is new. If the forum hasn't "reset" for you, your new search will show 90 threads but after the first 30 threads, you'll start seeing the threads that you had already clicked (unbolded text instead of the standard bold text).

Or, click on new posts, bang through the results (should only take a minute or two) and then immediately hit "mark read". Then go through each tab reading the thread. That way you only chance marking 1-2 minutes of new posts instead of the 30 minutes worth of new posts that you would have if you waited to hit "mark read" after you were finished.
