Can someone explain to everyone what OBO stands for.

I thought if someone was selling a item for $385.00 OBO and I make an offer for $370.00; that would be a OBO and not a low ball number, is that correct.

My son made an offer to someone this week for $15.00 less then the asking price and was accepted; I gave my son the money to meet up with the seller and my son tells me the seller emailed back after he spoke to someone after accepting our bid and the new buyer offer the seller full price and the seller told my son that this guy was 1st in line. So why would he accept our offer after 2-3 e-mails; is this the why it works?

well an or best offer is not very specific it would seem to imply a time frame

but its just a way of saying not firm on the price

if someone says $385firm and you offer them $384 they have a right to hate you and offer to meet you at turners at 5 oclock tonight and never show up

OBO Does stand for Or Best Offer, however some people tend to believe that when you put OBO you are desperate to sell and willing to take substantially less (which 9/10 times is not the case)

as far as your 2nd question the Seller accepted the offer but prior to meeting the "1st in line" contacted / got back to him and offered full price ... i have had this happen to me as both a buyer and seller and honestly over $15.00 i probably wouldnt have backed out as the seller but $150 (for example) i would've went with the best offer despite agreeing to sell... out of respect a seller probably should've contacted you back and explained the situation but at the end of the day until money is exchanged things can always change

OBO is "or best offer", but it's the sellers choice of who he/she sells to and the offer he/she accepts. It's all personal choice. CalGuns is not an auction website like eBay with legally binding contracts for selling and buying.

For instance, I would rather take a lower offer if I can meet personally FTF for cash locally, rather than pay for shipping (even when shipping is at the buyers own expense).
