    CGN and CGF?

Does CGN donate any money to CGF or any other orgs, or where does the surplus from CGN go?
Hosting is free and ad revenue and contributions probably give at least $5k-$10k/month, so just wondering where the money goes.

I totally understand that you dont want to disclose any exact numbers, just curious, in broad strokes, where it ends up Did some searching, but didnt see anything about this being asked before...

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

It's a fair question, CGN is a community and to a fair extent the members deserve to know what our finances look like.

Up until very recently the advertisements on Calguns have been very amateurishly run, in other words I was handling them.
We've been charging from 25-40 a month for ads and frankly I had half the advertisers who either were not paying or were paying sporadically.

The problem I have on both accounts is that I still see Calguns in many ways as our small community forum. This lead to seriously under-valuing the advertising and to not wanting to press friends for money. Unfortunately this is not a good way to do business and it leads to very limited income.

What money was coming in went to things like paying vBulletin licensing fees, domain name registrations and renewals (I have nearly every extension of 'calguns.xxx locked down), paying for the hosting for calguns.org which is on a non-Geovario server just in case, fronting and covering the hosting costs of the So Cal dinner a couple of years ago, airfare and hotel costs for NRA Conventions and such, buying each of the Mods knives with their screen names on them, buying things like knives to donate to the NRA Members Council dinners in Calguns' name and frankly I bought a Ruger .22 and 2 handguns.

A few months ago we completely restructured both the advertising layout and the fee structure and appointed an Advertising/Marketing Manager who is not me and thus more competent.
Between this and the member contributorships Calguns' income has increased a fair bit. Some of this is going back in to things such as give away materials at the Calguns gun show booths and events booths, paying for these booths and several C3 projects that are under development. Once we have an established monthly pattern of viable income that can be consistently tracked we're going to start paying Geovario for at least part of our hosting costs if not all depending on income.

As of now neither myself nor any of the Moderators take any salary from this income and the only one generating any personal income is our Marketing Manager who is suppose to be taking a commission on each ad sold. This reminds me, I need to check and make sure he is actually taking that commission. Our Marketing Manager is a currently unemployed Calgunner so even that payment is being kept 'in house'.

Over those past few months we've built a small cushion against problems, possible litigation and/or unforeseen disasters that was never there before and to be honest is very comforting to have.

CGF donations go directly to CGF and CGN has no part in handling those funds.

Given that the forum members are contributing to those funds it is kind of their business.
Besides it's a lot easier to try to be open about it than it is to let people guess.
