    Post removal

Post removal. What ever happened to leaving the post and deleting the content and sending a nasty-gram PM to the offender. Recently I had a post or two totally deleted, no explanation given and all record of it removed. This board touches on many subjects that bring up strong opinions in people. Totally removing a post without any reason given makes me wonder if there is a moderator with their own agenda and they are removing posts that they disagree with and not for other reasons such as abusive language. I understand that Kestryll needs help to moderate this board, but there is a fine line between moderating and censoring for personal reasons and without explanation for post deletion then this becomes gray area. Except in obvious cases where foul language or threats are made, I think the offender deserves at least a PM or a moderator post on the thread with an explanation.

I understand and somewhat agree with what your saying.

    as I had 5,037 Posts 05-02-2007, 05:13 PM post 74

ans now I have 4985 including this post which is the first I have made since my 2 day ban (For posting political satire pics) within my Joke and Pic thread) was lifted.

    My joke thread below.

I will ask the membership (of those that saw the pics before they were removed) if the pics that were removed offended anyone ?

I still don't understand how the pics I posted where against the rules But I will abide by what I have been told and not post those kind of pics again unless or course I get approval in advance.

I copied the picture posting rules from the off topic forum rules post.

    9) Rules for picture posting
Nudity or porn of any fashion is not allowed, either as a displaying image, as a hot link or as links of any fashion.
Pictures that do not meet the above discriptions but are suggestive or revealing can be posted as clickable (hot) links.
If it looks like the over-sensitive office tattletale would get offended by it but it is not pornographic, link it.
If it is a more tasteful image then it can be a displaying image.

      Two points Sam.
First off you posted the wrong rule, this was the one in question. Especially the part in bold. Remember, I sent this to you in a PM when I told you about the ban?
      3) Anti-Government posts while not forbidden are expected to maintain a civil and respectful tone.
Anti-Government sentiments always seem to attach themselves to the firearms culture, this is in part due to the fact that we see the erosion of our 2nd Amendment rights as a Government intrusion and rightly so. However trying to claim that everything the Government does is evil or part of some grand diabolical design is not only overly suspicious it is detrimental to us as well. It makes all firearms owners look slightly off center. Calguns is not about being anti-Government; we are about being Pro Second Amendment and that is the focus we wish to keep. Non-Second Amendment political discussion will be kept civil, polite and respectful just as Second Amendment political discussion has been expected to be. You do not have to respect the person but we expect you to respect the Office. If you can not your post will be removed, repeated removals will cause your account to be closed.
Second, it really isn't an issue if someone felt it was offensive, it is against the rules. It really doesn't get much more complex than that.

And you can't say you don't understand how it was against the rules, as I said, I sent you that same rule with bolding for emphasis in the PMs before your ban took effect. So I KNOW you've seen the rule. So why post rule 9 regarding porn images?

To address Tankerman's question we use the soft delete instead of editing for a couple of reasons.
If I remove your post and you ask me via PM what was wrong with it I can copy directly from the deleted post to let you know. Soft delete does not remove it from the database just from public view. Hard delete is unrecoverable.

Editing a post and leaving it blank is a clear indicator that someone erred. In almost all cases I try to not share or broadcast someone's errors to the board. It's not something everyone needs to know. This is also why I hesitate to do visible deletion notices. Everyone still sees that Tanker got tagged and what for. It seems that this should be no one's business but yours.

PMs are not a bad idea, I usually only send them when something is bad enough that it requires a warning. Small stuff I just soft delete and ignore, it's not suitable but not worth tagging someone for. I usually expect that people know what they wrote and can figure out, 'Yeah, that part/post was a bit much'.

The easiest thing would be to turn on visible deletion notices but then everyone can see that a post was removed and why. If that's not a concern I'll turn them on.

I dont agree with the RULE. But I will abide by the rule in order to be a Member in good standing.

The part I posted was labeled "9) Rules for picture posting" I felt that was a correct rule to post since it had to do with pictures.

I don't Respect the President, Vice President, or a majority of congress.
I feel they are disrespecting the Constitution that they took an oath to protect. I feel that the majority of the politicians and those in the white house are the enemies that the oath they took spoke about. Domestic ones that is.

I get a little concerned because I have no idea who does the deleting or why. All moderators are not created equal and I get a little concerned that emotion and bias come into play at times. There also seems to be a bit more leeway for a few popular members.
