These items cause slow forum speed

    Just an FYI:

It doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally the forum hangs for a bit.

These are the items it's loading when it hangs:

    static.ak.fbcdn.net
    api.ak.facebook.com
    zulu.tweetmeme.com
Guns, dogs and home alarms. Opponents are all of a sudden advocates once their personal space is violated.

Why is it all the funny stuff happens to comedians?

Yep, noticed the same thing today and came here to post and found this thread.

Same URL's. Lots of Facebook hang-ups.

Ya gotta get rid of those loads. They sometimes timeout completely.

If you want to solve this one the user end.

Download NoScript Add On for your firefox browser (I know you are all using firefox right!?!)

Then we you load calguns click on the NoScript icon on the bottom right and click allow this page. Then more options will come up... click on forbid:

      Facebook.com
      Facebook.net
      tweetmeme.com
      google-analytics.com
      etc.
      etc.
      etc.

Your browser will now block anything you have forbidden. You can block anything you want. NoScript is an awesome add on and makes web browsing SAFER, faster, and give you more control.

      Dew it!

^Thanks. I have AdBlock but didn't know about the NoScript.

Thinking about it, I can't remember if the old skin had those social network add-ons. If not, switching to 1.0 might be an option for some too.

ETA: after installing NoScript, I remembered I used to have it installed and deleted it. It prevents me from being able to view Youtube videos in posts. Even after I allowed youtube, it wouldn't load them unless I clicked on each one specifically and temporarily allowed it.

Am I missing something? I'd rather keep it, but would like to see the videos.

Click allow this page... then click which you want to forbid. If you don't click on youtube it will allow it.

I have no issues with youtube vids not coming up and I run noscript 24/7. Sounds like you didn't have it set up properly.

switch to the "Calguns 1.0" skin and you dont have to worry about all that fb and chat BS.

              That did it. Thanks again.

Dunno about MS internet exploder because I haven't used in in years, but on firefox the bottom bar on the left displays what is loading and the progress bar is on the right. NoScript can also show you what has loaded.

                    My pleasure.

I have recommended NoScript in many other threads, but no one ever listens. I guess they like being open to malicious scripts.

                        Glad you got it working.
This can also happen if you are running "FlashBlock". It doesn't allow Flash to load but you can click on the Flash file and it will open.
