Instead of newbies all posting on the "riflemans forum".... maybe we should just have a "Newbie Forum".... then I hope that if they don't know how to use the search, they will at least read thru the "Newbie Forum" before asking the same questions over and over agin...

Not "anti-newbie".... for ones who are willing to answer those questions.... can frequent that forum....

The problem is, most of the newbie didn't notice the "FAQ"....

Or perhaps a "FAQ" forum. I know there is already an FAQ selection, but that points directly to the search. Lock the FAQ thread creation to admins/moderators only, and they can create what they think are the most repetitive questions. Just a suggestion.

Say there is a newbie forum - who is going to go in there and answer their questions? It would be much better if we just gave them access to search and all when the registered. but made them wait 48 hrs before they can post. I was on a forum once like that and it stopped me from asking a question that has already been answered. People always like to do the least amount of work. Some others feel there situation is different because of some stupid reason. Plus - without the newbies this forum wouldn't be too active, what cool new toys are coming to CA? What new laws are happening that we can discuss?

I'd freq there to answer their questions... but then... u ONLY need to answer them ONCE.... then that's it.... make sure all others read thru that forum before asking the NEXT question...

We were all newbies once cut them some slack and explain the search after politely answering there question

There is the archived posts forum. create some good content, ask that it be put in the archived posts forum and taa-dah!

If you want to search and find existing threads that are good so we can move them over, go for it.

I think that a forum for noob's is a great idea.
The forum should be called "Gun Questions".

The veterans of the board will know it's for noobs. They will continue to ask "new" questions in their respective forums.

Meanwhile, the noob's will naturally gravitate to the forum marked "Gun Questions" for their answers.

I understand where some of you are coming from, in regards to people being too lazy to use the search. I just don't think it's always that simple. Not everyone in our sport has the same reading comprehension skills. While some of us have an easy time picking through the minutia to find our answers, other people must have it spelled out for them in the "language" they speak.

This also seems to affect the OLL situation the most, so I'll address that.
There is also the fear that goes along with something like the offlist lower craze. Some people need to be reassured by other gunowners of what's legal. Looking through old posts just doesn't give them the warm fuzzy feeling that they seek. They need to hear it from the horses mouth (a confident horse, with links). Probably they heard from their cousin Lenny about "California Legal AR-15's". He told them to log on to Calguns to see for themselves.

And so they start posting.........

If this were a cooking forum it wouldn't matter if we lost allies, because food isn't going away.
Our gun rights are, however.

Good customer service means that people will buy your product, come back for repeat business and tell their friends too. Some customers know what they want, others stare at the menu until they finally end up ordering the same old thing. Who cares, as long as they buy something? Less and less people will come here for information if they keep getting treated poorly. Right now, we need numbers on our side.

In fact, I'll bet that if we hadn't flooded the state with tens of thousands of lowers, the DOJ would have done things a little differently. They would have listed, and we would just be some of the elite few that had registered AR's and AK's. Instead, we have the chance to give our kids some pretty nice rifles, and a million other benefits.

That only happened because we got the word out. I preached it like the Gospel to anyone that I thought would care. I know for a fact that five lowers were sold as a direct result of me telling friends/co-workers. Just a drop in the bucket, I know, but what about the people they told? And so on...

We all did this kind of preaching, and that's why this worked out so well.
Now we're in OLL Craze 2.0, and we have guys showing up at the range with these first generation OLL's. After seeing those guns at the range, the guys who thought it was too risky in the beginning, are feeling brave enough to check it out for themselves. They are the OLL 2.0 crowd. We need to nurture them and cultivate them, some more than others.

I think that a "Gun Questions" forum could be a safe harbor for uninitiated. The questions would be answered over and over again by the, uhh, "People person's" on this board. I'll certainly help out with the little knowledge that I have. (I'm sure the rest of the willing could help out with the other 99% that I don't know ).

It would be a hand-holding forum, for those that need it. They would be safe there.

BUT!!! If they dare ask a question in any of the other forums without searching first, they would deserve everything they get! That's the deal .

Agreed, and these too:

"Which OLL is the best?"

"Where can I find uppers"

"How do I weld my clip to my receiver".

"Can I inherit my dads registered AW?"

I imagine answering all of these questions twice a day! After I answer them, I'm gonna send the posters over to "Ten Percent" or "Cold War Shooters".

After they feel extra secure, they're gonna want new toys. I get a good feeling when I give Wes and "Pirate" business. They sacked up big time when this all got started, they should reap the rewards of a successful effort.

This idea may have merit, not just with gun questions but other aspects as well.
I'm thinking of a 'New to Calguns?' forum with posts and FAQs for information and where newer members can ask questions and get up to speed.
'Use the Search' would be used sparingly and maybe some newbies wouldn't be scared away by our crusty old members!
