Hey Admin, I've noticed some users' avatar picture is huge and make the webpage look weird and make it load slow. Wasn't there size limit on avatar picture? Did you remove the restriction?

I've tried both MS IE and Mozilla Firefox and the result is the same.

jdberger's avatar pic appears on my screen as 400 pixel (width) and 600 pixel (height).

Mine's approximately 50 pixel x 50 pixel.

It used to be 48 x 48 pixels limit, but I saw others were bigger so I bumped mine too. But I agree, some are too big will slow the pages down.

Hmmm....looks like it's back to normal now.

The slow loading problem is still there. The problem is that the forum software simply hotlinks to an external image, and tells the browser to size it down to avatar size. When you do that you don't have any control over how large (in terms of file size) the image can be. Some of the images that members are using for avatars are 150KB or more, and that can take a while to download.

Unfortunately, because of the way the forum software works, I don't see a way to fix that. Some forums have a user setting for "don't display avatars" but I don't see one here.

Sometimes the software resizes correctly, sometimes it doesn't. A better point is that the software shouldn't have to do the re-sizing at all. Maybe Admin can come up with a funny avatar to sub in for people whose file is too big

No offense to anyone though. I've noticed it on other forums on the net too. Am I like the only idiot that shrinks the Avatar pic?

No, you're not the only one - I shrink my pic as a courtesy to the forum and to allow it to load faster. I don't believe in submitting a huge avatar just to waste bandwidth or server space.

My apologies. I thought that the avatar pics were automatically resized. I'll see what I can do to shrink Superman. I'm not terribly computer savvy, so please be patient.

In the meantime, can I get 50Freak's old avatar super-sized?
