What are the reasons for not separating marketplace by region?

This map works perfectly. I know its been suggested a million times, I don't see why its not been implemented after 20 years. Its literally the most basic thing.

And then we have 6 handgun forums, 6 long gun forums, 6 accessory forums ...

    Now enforce it.

We can't get sellers to even post only in the sales forums, much less provide complete information like 'location' and 'price'.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Why assume? Do a test run, if it's a huge failure just go back to normal.

Try 3 sections, North, Central, and Southern.

Get a few more moderators for that section if needed. 20 years in and it's all still one jumbled mess.

System works fine. Search for what you want and see if you are willing to make the trip to buy it.

Says the guy with almost 13,000 posts lol.

Its a good suggestion and it would de-clutter everything.

Making the assumption that members are too stupid to post in the right region is not the right thing to do. At the very least implement it for a month and assess it. It hardly takes any effort

Some people are willing to travel depending on what they’re looking for. Searching separate forums vs one seems less efficient.

I agree with Librarian, people can’t even post in the correct forum.

Why do a test run that will drain resources and take time to implement to end up reverting to what we have now if it doesn’t work…

And you just joined this year…explore other sub-forums rather than focus on the MP. You’ll see this topic has been brought up every so often.

Location is irrelevant, if im looking for something. I went to san diego, from san jose to buy a dirt bike

Good for you, 99% of people don't do a 1000-mile round trip for things.

Sure, like trustworthy moderators are available for the asking.

Get folks to agree on those boundaries (you basically can't).

What do we do with all the existing threads? Who categorizes them by region and moves them? In handguns, there are roughly 900 threads active in just April and May.

No, making that kind of change to the existing forum is wasted effort.

What we need is a posting app that collects and validates required information from sellers and then creates the post, and a search app that looks through those complete and accurate posts. That does not seem to be a vBulletin thing at all, certainly not a version 3.x vBulletin.

ETA Breaking up the marketplace geographically is a long-term request - see

                    Read the first two, especially.

                      Because I'm not geographically challenged.

                        .
How does that prevent you from looking in the other regional sub-sections then?

OP asks what are the reasons for not separating markets by region.

Gets answers, sonce there are many.
Then agrues because he wants it separated anyway.

And doesn't see the irony in not being able to get users to follow the existing rules.

Making assumptions after a short time here is also too stupid. You have zero idea as to how easy or hard it is to implement it for a month.

Pulling an assumption out of your tail never works.

Far better is for posters to simply follow the rules and put their locations in the thread title.
