It seems like the spamming on this board has gotten to epic proportions. Maybe the solution would be to let new members not start any threads until they have at least 50 posts. I think that would greatly reduce the amount of spam threads that are created in the boards that clog up everything. Just an idea.

agreed I joined the fourms to talk about guns and entered the collectors market but everyday at least 3-5 spam on long guns. 50 days will deter spammers creating new accounts.

Maybe the admins need to implement an approval procedure for new accounts, similar to other forums.

Both those suggestions are problematic and may not be feasible given the coding of the site or would be labor intensive.

A better solution IMHO would be to auto delete any thread that has "VS" in the first post.

Would get 99% of them.

On the other hand, if a spammer donates $5 to Calguns for each thread, why stop it? generates money. Might be happening already.

A friend got tired of spammers and started to get even.

since he uses a vpn they have no idea who its coming from but its very hard to make money if they have to sort through 100,000 emails to find a order to there spam site.

Also, they can use the search function. Chances are, the question had been asked before.

The spam is all automated, done by a piece of software called XRumer that spams thousands of boards at once.

@Kestryll, if you want some help, I can probably come up with some things that would slow them down. Keeping VBulletin in a default configuration makes it too easy for the software to register accounts and post.

First post only allowed in the "Welcome in" section. a few mods to simply monitor that one thread. Once a successful post you can then be released to post anywhere. That would throw off spammers.
