    Spam posts

Is there a way to make a (SPAM) post get automatically deleted if it gets flagged for "SPAM" a certain number of times?

On craigslist, there is/was a feature where a post will be deleted if it is flagged 3 times. It would be nice if there was such a thing on Calguns. We wouldn't have to bother the mods.

But then what are the mods going to do to earn their lofty paychecks?

      Generally the process is:

If you find a spam message and the reply count is 0 then reply with one word, reported
Then on the original message click on the little triangle in the heading and put one word in the reply box, spam

A cart before the horse thread...

There has to be a way to verify the goodness of a new members...this is the only vbulletin forum I've visited that has the spam that calguns.net has.

How do other forums check on fng's to avoid spam?

          Hah!

We try our best to act immediately. My process for taking care of spam is permaban + permanently delete the thread.

This is a busy forum and I'm sure the spamming scum want the most bang for their buck.

Seems like most have joined that day. Perhaps a 24-48 hour moratorium on posting for new members might slow it down. Or not.

"Busy" is subjective. You want busy? Check arfcom. I've been there since started. No spam. Granted, not vbulletin.

The FAL Files seems about as busy as here...no spam.

Not sufficient - join dates of a week before posting spam are common (same-day is by far the most common) and I've banned a few this month with 3 or 4 week earlier join dates.

But, since same-day is the bulk, that might help.

Is there no vBulletin forum software option to require new members to reach say a 20 post minimum before being allowed to post links in a thread?

                            Funny you mention that.

There are 3 accounts with no posts by a very busy spammer at the time called xxxx "velly".

These accounts are all a year old.

I think "velly" got a new job.

                            Edit:

That made me check another regular spammer from a while back: "sonarthala" followed by a number or two still has a dozen or so usernames up from over a year ago.

Have not heard from that one for a long time either.

No system is perfect and never will be. Offshore hackers/spammers make big bucks getting by the walls put up and hopefully we have smart enough people on here to report them and smart enough Mods to take them out as they are found and reported. we can help cut it down but at what point do you tip the scales in favor of biased censorship versus freedom of speech? it is a slippery slope and who defines "spam"? it is a no win argument. Just keep reporting and knocking them off the site.
