New "safe place" section for asking questions

    Stuff like this bugs me...

Granted, we should be responsible citizens and learn the laws pertain to us, but stuff like this is uncalled for in my opinion.

That post is what may be called a 'bitter joke'.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

It should only take a rational person reading one or two posts from that guy to learn to ignore him. I see it as a good litmus test: If, after that, you still take him seriously, you probably shouldn't be allowed to post.
I meant, it is my opinion that...

We Dont need a safe space for questions. Although I dont agree with that particular users post, new members and lurkers also need to spend 30 minutes reading stickies and performing searches for basic information rather than starting a new thread because they want the legwork done for them..

The answer to his question could be found in under a few minutes with a basic search.

          I agree that's the intention.

Unfortunately, like CA gun laws and reality, there is a mismatch between that expectation and actual message board behavior.

Someone pointed out to me that the best way to make information invisible is to put it in a sticky.

And, while the search sometimes helps, if you are not starting with the specific vocabulary, either DOJ's or Calguns argot, it's hard to find things.

Plus, it take a while to develop the mindset for 'there are no short simple answers; this is complicated, and there are conditionals that must be examined'. TL; DR is too often a beginner's affliction.

'Bitter jokes' like that irritate the piss out of me.

We don't need a 'safe space' but it might not be a bad idea to hand out temp bans to members who think they are clever when people ask for help...
