    regional forums

just a suggestion on the possibility of regional forums... maybe something like this

    NorCal
    - bay area
    - tahoe
    - sac

    SoCal
    - LA
    - San Diego
    - redlands

im sure people can divide the sub forums much better than i just did, but you get the idea.

it would give people in that specific area to plan for events and discuss local issues with out the thread being lost in the shuffle of a more general forum.

I think it would just complicate things and divide the community

It's not like norcal people can't browse the socal forums. it just allows for some organization. for example, say us san diegans want to get together for a shoot and bbq. we'd post it in the san diego forums so that the likely hood of it being seen by a san diegan goes up. whereas in the general discussion, the turnover is fast, and the post could quickly get lost resulting in less san diegan eyes on the post.

it also makes it nice if you know you're going to be traveling to a certain part of the state. you can browse the forum of the place you're going and see if anything you'd like to participate in will be going on during your stay there.

i do see your point on it dividing the community. a post that starts off just for a region gets off track and the discussion moves to a more general discussion. (eg. what local gun shops do you recommend? becomes a more aspects of a good gun shop) people that woudln't normally surf that region would miss out on the conversation. however, if that were the case, i would think it best to close that thread and start a new one in the general discussion area.
