Any Plans For HTTPS Version of Calguns

Hey - before the server switch, one could browse Calguns securely/encrypted with HTTPS. Is this feature going to be coming back with the new servers?

I second this feature, I'd even suggest it as mandatory.
Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms. -- Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (Pearce and Hale, eds., Boston, 1850)

Too much overhead to run Apache+SSL with a web based bulletin board that gets as much traffic as calguns.

If anything, you only need SSL for the actual authentication portion.

I never knew you could browse the calguns.net forum via port 443 (https) before. But anyone that was doing it was contributing to extraneous server load.

If you want secure browsing of a web forum over an untrusted network connection, use a VPN.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Interesting. Didn't know they actually had an official beta test. I wonder if there was enough concurrent SSL users to even get a decent metering on the extra CPU load.

I would think that even with SSL acceleration hardware, Apache+SSL running a PHP based bulletin board would be pretty laggy. But perhaps I overestimate the calguns page load count, and/or underestimate the hardware.
