Adding acceptable search string? “‘s&w’ ‘m&p’” says s,w,m,p too common

Trying to find a s&w m&p9 2.0 in the for sale handgun forum has been rough, the search function won’t even accept them with quotes to signify an exact match is requested. Kinda silly to not interpret it correctly when it’s one of the most popular handgun models out there.

    it thinks I’m searching for s, w, m, p individually which yeah, that’s a silly search. But m&p is a legitimate string

There's the option of using the BROWSER's 'find' rather than simply trying to use the site's search engine. It's a bit more cumbersome, but I just found several listings for a mix of m&p 2.0 on the first two pages.

Go to Private Firearms Sales - Handguns. Then go to the 3 vertical dots in the upper right hand corner of the screen (assuming you're using Chrome). Scroll down to Find and Edit. Click Find or enter Ctrl + F. Enter m&p, then toggle until you find what you want.

Be forewarned, the search box will disappear each time you click on a page, meaning you'll have to reopen it to continue searching. As I said, it's a bit more cumbersome, but it does work.

      Hope that helps.

        Try typing Glock.

        Results will include perfection.

The search function on this site is a joke. Try looking for a Glock 42. You will have to look at every single Glock ad. "42" is not accepted as a query. And there is no way to do an "and" query like Glock *and* 42.

It is simply unbelievable that somebody, somewhere, thought this software was any good. In every measurable respect, this software is the biggest POS forum software that ever was.

I have tried, the results are woefully incomplete and also the date that Google gives for them, when any date is given, is very often wrong. So the net effect is you have to click on every single search result - but why waste time since the results are only small fraction of what is really there.

And the best search term for google would be inurl:"private-firearms-sales-handguns" site:calguns.net "glock 42"

But no, unfortunately Google is a bust for this site.

Yes, this software version of vB, as implemented by the site, seems to have a problem with numbers in general as specific search terms.

I at first thought it was related to string length but tried different ideas and none worked to narrow searches with presumed 'and' queries.

For non-number searches or searches that include letters and numbers together in seach terms, it appears to work fine. However, I did limit my experiements to marketplace and handguns for specificity but would presume the problem is throughout the search engine.

From use of other sites with vB, both the old 3.8xxx that was used here and the newer versions, this seems odd. It must be site specific as opposed to software specific.
