What Happened with this Morning's Outage?

This morning, 29 March 25, CG was down with a message from the host that the account was suspended. Was this some kind of accounting error?

I'm hoping some features got fixed. I noticed if you edit a post the box that said "State the reason for edit" is now up again. I don't think it was there before today.

    ETA: Yup....its there alright!!

        The usual colors were hoisted.

Those who started screaming that Calguns was down, that Kestryll was an (expletive deleted), that Doomsday had cometh nigh, that Calguns had obviously folded, that optimism .net would be coming back was unwarranted, that .net had clearly been sold, etc., et al., and so forth.

Those who rolled with the punches, issuing humor, expressing resigned patience, speculation over Kestryll's boss demanding he spend more quality time with the family and how they don't blame her, questions over whether the site had been hacked, and such like.

Then you had the raccoon on his site denying any responsibility as he was 'busy;' but, hoping this would promote his long, hoped for 'merger' and his plans to corner the national market. (Of course, there were also those on his site dancing, among other things, on what they hoped was the grave of Calguns... only to be foiled again. 😂 )

        As I said, the usual.

Later in the same thread, he claimed Calguns "works for the users who are patient and have time. I think for everyone else, there will be another spike to come here again."

In other words, giving him the benefit of the doubt, it was his usual shuffle and self-aggrandizement. Proclaiming innocence, claims that the site would be back for those who insist on miring through the mud, and determination to rule the World or, at least, build a site/community someone will buy.

The error was pretty obvious what the issue was. It happened on .org too. The question again is instead of blaming me why aren’t you looking for answers from the owner who brought it back online?

he can tell you exactly why it went down and if it was due to an attack or something else.

People here on CalGuns who think CaGuns is leftist or screwed up for even existing should get a life. CalGuns remains a seriously screwed up site. And most at CaGuns wish it wasn’t so. Let’s face it, it remains very difficult to get onto. Fact.

And if this hadn’t happened, or if it got taken care of promptly, CaGuns wouldn’t even exist.

Actually, the real question is why you keep getting triggered sufficiently to continue defending yourself on this site while continuing to attempt your 'guerilla marketing' on both sites.

It simply feeds the blame game (the suspicions) and detracts from your 'genius' and 'superiority;" i.e., from that same thread... "I've built the system in a way where a team could take my place when the time comes. We just need to get there."

I mean, after all, you clearly knew, from the moment it happened, what it was as you went from didn't pay the bill, to got hacked, to some small administrative thing, to not being sure what the game plan was from 8:26 am to 3:27 pm and adding your own plans...

I'm still trying to but we still have a ways to grow before someone will take us seriously. The site is still young and not large enough. It doesn't help there's a general slowdown in 2A, but that's also why I'm expanding the offering and reach. I'm building a larger network so that it would interest a bigger company. There's a consistent experience and uniform framework to make it sustainable for several markets.

The CA market was too small specifically. This doesn't generate enough $ to hire staff etc for one location but multiple then it starts to make more sense, so i launched in Texas. A lot of the pieces you see me working on is trying to get it to a point where we can get backing by a bigger entity because it makes sense.

The umbrella coming out is ArmoryHQ which is going to be the national site, accessories only. Then we have economies of scale and might be able to afford health insurance and a few eggs. The honest truth is because this niche is so impacted by gov't. It's really only side money, not enough to live off of since we don't require payment or have any fee's. ~1% of the members here donate and even fewer are subscribers. We offer a lot for free.

For the guys saying get advertisers - a lot of brands don't work in California because of the rules. It sucks, also why I had to see if this platform works outside CA.

You see my other post asking how we compare to TacSwap because I'm not a big user in existing platforms but I have built platforms. Then it becomes more marketing to get to the level of ARF which we're 1/3rd the way. If Texas grows then its 2/3. If ArmoryHQ works we'll be the same size as ARFCOM based on my traffic analysis prediction. I know Brownell's backs them, so that seems to be the bar.

I've built the system in a way where a team could take my place when the time comes. We just need to get there.
Yep. I inserted the winking face from this site as your site's winking face translates as too large to be appropriate. As I said, your usual shuffle and self-aggrandizement.

Actually, it likely would exist. Remember, ikeo self-proclaims he targeted the Reddit audience, drawing from the membership here to create a sense of substance, not to mention legitimacy, and, as he has made abundantly clear, California isn't a big enough audience/market and he has grander plans.

If the site is so difficult for you to get on to... If you think it is so seriously screwed up... If, as you declared on the other site, you wish Calguns was something other than what it is because it's continues "running on crap software and hardware"... Uh...

When one cannot get onto the site for days at a time, and for as long as a year or more, you can’t, in good conscience say that there’s anything wrong with another site stepping in.

And I try with both Apple and PC platforms. I wish it wasn’t this way, but when it goes on, uncorrected, for so long, something’s got to give.

I've never taken issue with 'another site.' What I've taken issue with are things like 'guerrilla marketing' and people declaring on other sites that Calguns is about to experience an 'imminent demise.' We know that the site, whatever it's current faults and problems, has been worked on and many of us assume it still is being worked on. We also know that it's something being done or has been done part-time and voluntarily or, at least, that's what we've been told. As has been stated uncounted times, we don't own the site and, as a result, it's up to Kestryll to determine what is and isn't appropriate vis a vis the budget, his technical abilities, the timbre, the content, et al.

What is up to the individual members is whether they can live with or tolerate things as is and/or until they get better. What isn't or to many, shouldn't be tolerable is a near continuous stream of posts bad mouthing Kestryll, demanding this or that change, and declaring the site dead every time there is a technical glitch. Posting feedback is one thing. Kvetching and openly undermining the site's ownership and mission is quite another. Remember, many, many who remain concur that saving the 'historical' aspects is the important metric over the long haul, not the 'immediate' gratification of a fully functioning site. It remains to be seen if the fixes will ultimately prove worth the pain.

Saying that the other site is 'stepping in' really isn't quite accurate. Yes. It's peeled off quite a number of members from here; but, many of them continue to remain active on both sites and some went there, became disillusioned, and returned. A number of them have individual grievances with Kestryll and/or how the site is administered; i.e., there is a good deal of 'hate' which is being allowed to be posted on the other site, something which ikeo has said he doesn't prefer or allow. (It's not all about the words used, but the timbre of the posts. Yet, even there, let's face it, some of that stuff just isn't consistent with the 'messaging' being used to sell the site.)

As I observed, ikeo has grander plans than making his site into a 'substitute' for Calguns. As I quoted ikeo, he considers... The CA market was too small specifically. In other words, his site was a beginning, not an end unto itself. Whether that was his original intent or something he determined along the way...
